What’s going on here?!

I had a really weird situation today when an agent knocked on our door to ask if we need help to sell our house (there’s a board up outside.)

I explained that we’re really happy with our current agent (we’ve just had a buyer pull out at the very last minute, so the house has only been back on for a few days and we have lots of viewings over the weekend) and then got into a ‘where are you moving to’ chat. I named the road and he said ‘oh I have clients moving that road, to xx house’ - the house we’ve had our offer accepted on, done surveys and had searches back - we were ready to exchange when our buyer changed her mind and pulled out. The vendors have agreed to give us time to re-sell our house. So what on earth is going on?!

Could the agent have sold it twice? They assure us that this isn’t the case, but it all feels very odd and makes me feel quite uneasy. I’m very close to just throwing the towel in and staying where we are at this point tbh!

Was he from the same agency that you viewed 'your' house through?

shoesaregood · 23/07/2021 23:11

No, he was from a small local agency I haven’t heard of before, but he was ‘in the area’ and apparently has buyers who want to see our house, so thought he’d knock to ‘see if he could help’. I did suggest that ‘his’ buyers could view the house quite easily by contacting our agent via rightmove 🙄

Bizarre! No ideas, sorry. Would you maybe speak to your vendor's EA?

Ylvamoon · 24/07/2021 05:30

.. maybe it's the next big scam brewing?

Scarydinosaurs · 24/07/2021 05:35

I’d trust your own estate agents- he sounds dodgy af

Arrrghh · 24/07/2021 09:32

No idea what’s going on but sounds like some sort of hustle! I wouldn’t believe a thing he says, just check in with your EA for an update.

Perhaps he has a buyer for the other house but they won’t accept offer as they’ve already accepted yours? Maybe he’s hoping you’ll pull out

What agent goes doorstepping for business? I got inundated with letters from other agents when selling mine but with Rightmove I don’t believe any agent has their own secret list of buyers that haven’t also registered with all other agents.
