Banbury

Hi All,
Could anyone say where the best place to live outside of Banbury is? With access to the town and Oxford if possible, but not Banbury itself? Would like a picturesque village/small town, ideally with a primary school, as beautiful as possible as lived in a very plain place for a long time! Would love somewhere with a bit of countryside/water if possible?
I need a train station or a good bus service as I don’t drive.
I know it’s a big ask! Thankyou!

Adderbury or deddington both nice. Upper and lower heyford lovely - equidistant to oxford.

Thanks! I've heard good things about Kings Sutton?

I’d second Adderbury or Deddington KS is pretty and has a train station but has a different feel to the other two in my opinion.

Thanks, could you say in what way a different feel? Trying to avoid areas with deprivation/crime/general bleakness!

My mother lived in Deddington for many years; I loved it there, as a visitor (never lived there myself), and it was friendly and welcoming to her, and pretty much my idea of a perfect village (expensive housing though). But as you say, transport is an issue - DM didn't drive, so was reliant on friends for lifts, and taxis on occasion. I used to catch the bus after the train into Banbury when visiting, and although it's a pleasant route, it is half an hour, which could get a bit tedious if you had to do it all the time.

Depends a bit on your budget. But the main choices are:
Adderbury/Deddington - nice large villages on the main road between Oxford and Banbury. There is a bus that runs on this road, but it's quite slow. Some older houses in the middle as well as newer build estates. Not really near water, but you could get to the canal if you wanted. Both have primary schools.
Heyfords - lovely, there is a train station, but not super regular.
King Sutton - the nicest parts are very pricey (train station with a direct line to London) there are some newer (well 70s) estates which probably don't fit your "beautiful" criteria. Not sure on buses. Canal is nearby though. The primary school has had an improvement notice I think. Good pubs.
Bodicote, which is on the outskirts of Banbury might be an option. It's on the Oxford side of Banbury, right next to the countryside and maybe 2 miles walk to Banbury train station (or bike ride).

Bodicote is more or less joined onto Banbury these days due to big new housing developments, much larger than those in Adderbury or Deddington. Fine if that’s your thing, and the old, picturesque part is quite small.
I like KS and absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it always feels a bit more remote to me. It’s just inside Northamptonshire rather than Oxfordshire.
