My house smells!!!

Please help 😭

Terraced house, neighbours are heavy weed smokers - thought I was imagining it or maybe the smell was floating in from the windows/doors being opened but after a few days away the smell is overpowering 😢

How is it getting in?! And any tips for getting rid of it? Other than getting rid of the neighbours 😉

Any gaps or spaces between the walls are a route for it to get in.

Check all cracks and gaps in the adjoining walls and fill them up.

Get a charcoal odor absorber from Amazon or similar. They're really good. It's no use trying to cover the smell...you've got to stop it getting in and absorb that which does manage to seep in.

Have you got fireplaces or gaps where fireplaces were?

QueenStromba · 22/07/2021 08:15

I meant vents where fireplaces were.

Thank you for replying!

@fortunesfave only moved in within the last year, walls all got new plaster. Will have a look at the charcoal absorber, thank you for the recommendation ☺️

@queenstromba no gaps, I'm baffled!

Go up in the loft if you have one and see if the smell is stronger there.

feb2022 · 22/07/2021 10:10

They're not growing it by any chance are they?
My neighbours smoke it regularly and I can smell it but it's not like an overpowering smell if you know what I mean
On the other hand my mum had somebody move in next to hers and it was VERY strong, turned out they were growing it in their loft

lifeinlimbo2020 · 22/07/2021 14:09

@feb2022 I bet that's what it is. Same here, constant weed smoker lives next door to me but I can never smell it unless he's actually smoking it.

No suggestions sorry, but I feel you. In our old house it used to come through all the chimney breasts (even though they were blocked up), it took a year after we moved for the inside of my sons wardrobe not to smell of weed. Dreadful stuff.

purplesequins · 22/07/2021 14:37

brick walls have gaps where the floor joists live.
also chimneys are often only single brick to each other and let in more smell.
check the loft for gaps as well (we discovered a door! between our and neighbour's loft)

Gowrie · 22/07/2021 15:16

Thanks all, didn't even consider the roof. We have neighbours on the other side who smoke too but it's definitely nowhere near as noticeable - their smell comes from outside not in our house!!

@purplesequins that's mad, did you open it? 😂

I would ask them to vape it.

purplesequins · 22/07/2021 16:15

@Gowrie neighbours already had placed a wardrobe over their side of the door.
we had it bricked up as soon as we could.
