North facing kitchen/diner with bi-fold doors. Will it be cold?

We are purchasing a house with a North facing kitchen/diner that has bi-fold doors out onto the North facing garden. Its quite a large space. We love the house and hate the heat so am hoping it will be cooler in the summer. I've only just figured out that this means it may well be colder in the winter!

Does anyone else have similar? How have they managed to keep the heat in a bit more? I've heard of people fitting gazebos etc externally, is this really a thing?

Not cold here, I've got a north facing kitchen diner, 25ft x 15 ft with bifold and high ceilings.

I've got marble floors and a sofa with a rug near the doors.

It is fine, lovely in this heat and warm enough in colder weather.

Not if the doors are double-glazed

our north facing kitchen has one whole glass wall onto the garden. but triple glazed & the building is well insulated so it is cool in summer & warm in winter. much better than being south facing and getting too hot.

We have this set up. We had underfloor heating installed and in winter it is the warmest room in the house. It is nice not having a baking hot kitchen in Summer.

Our house is north facing and yes, very cool. But in the winter with the heating on it's not cold at all. Without the heating - yes.

Thanks all, this is really reassuring.

We have n facing bifolds and they're fine. An absolute godsend on days like today! We have them open a lot in spring/summer, despite what people always say on here (that there's no point having bi-folds because you NEVER use them in this country)!

That’s how I see mine - an absolute godsend. The blinds at the front have been closed for a week - it’s greenhouse like.

Hi OP, we're currently in a south-west facing house with a conservatory at the back and the kitchen/diner has been UNBEARABLE in this heat.

We are actually moving to a new build in autumn with a big north facing kitchen-diner across the whole back of the house (sounds similar to yours) and I can't wait. I find it's much easier to heat a room than to cool it.

@StepBackPlease sounds exactly the same as ours. We had a choice between this property and one with a south facing kitchen/diner/conservatory and seems like we made the right choice for us!!

Just hiding in my north-facing sitting room as it's nice and cool. Not cold in the winter as the heating is usually on.
