Pure Brilliant White on outside of house?

We need to repaint the exterior of our 1930s semi. It’s rendered and currently painted in a horrible yellowy magnolia colour. Other houses on my street look great in white but the only white colour I can see in the shops is pure brilliant white. I’m concerned that PBW will be so dazzling that I’ll blind everyone on the street.

Does the intensity of the PBW die down a bit? Is there an off white that everyone buys?

I had thought about Sandtex Chalk Hill but i think it has a hint of grey which I’m not keen on. I also don’t want a anything with hint of yellow. I guess that leaves PBW!

Anyone else have PBW outside?

Ours is pure white. It is absolutely fine. We went for it as the safe option. I rarely like other colours once the paint is no longer fresh, but I think white tends to still be fine.

There is one house I pass that was done in a lovely cream colour but it only looks lovely when the sun is on it. When the sun isn't on it, it looks a bit drab now that it is no longer freshly painted.

If you go to Brewers online or similar you will be able to get any colour you like mixed as masonry paint.

We had similar magnolia colour I did go for white (timeless by dulux) on our south facing house wall and have had to tone it down a bit with climbing plants as it was a bit bright in the sun.

Trade white! Basically it’s PBW but without the added brighteners. Should be readily available in exterior paints.

I'm currently seeking quotes for exactly the same job (and colour). Can I ask what you're paying? First quote we have is £6k! Is that a credible price for 4 bed pebbledash semi and garage?

I had my house painted last summer in white and it looks really lovely, fresh and clean.
When I drive home I pause slightly on my driveway so I can admire it.

I used Sandtex Chalk Hill on my house and am very, very pleased with it. It's definitely white (not cream, not grey, not yellow) - but just has a bit more character than PBW.

Ours is PBW and I love it. It has made a huge difference to the overall look of our house, so much so that the next door neighbours and the next house along asked the guy we used to do theirs too! It still looks good a few years later, the plants in the front garden stand out because of the white backdrop and we've even had passers by stop to tell us how much they like it.

Thanks everyone. I feel a weekend of tester pots is coming!!

No quotes yet Edgyandstressed but £6k seems like a lot Shock
