We're thinking of moving our kitchen into our lounge and putting the lounge elsewhere. The windows will all adjoin to be French doors/sliders.
Any idea on design? It must have a breakfast bar/island for 4.

Can you show the whole ground floor plan? There are a lot of doors and windows off the lounge - seeing the whole ground floor will help to give you the best suggestions. As it stands, there's limited workable space for a kitchen.

I'm loathe too just for privacy reasons. The door on the left is being changed so can be sliding. The bottom door leads to the hall.
The windows will all be one opening. No doors/windows to the right.

Without removing that corner at the bottom left you’ll struggle with a decent sized island. An island needs clearance of 1m all around it ideally, absolute minimum of about 850mm for comfort. If you can square the room up a little you’ll have a lot more to work with for a long L run on right and bottom and a nice island with seating.

Don't want to be a Debbie Downer but have you thought about where your plumbing is? We looked at putting our kitchen into a different room at our old house but moving the plumbing would have cost sooooooo much money. Fingers crossed it all works out for you!

do you need a dining table in the kitchen as well as an island? Or is it just island + appliances?

do you have a utility room elsewhere?

Baxdream · 08/07/2021 06:01

It doesn't need to be an island, it can be a breakfast bar. We had an island previously so I'm aware you need the room.
We have plumbing next to the room.
The plan is to extend but build costs have delayed it so we're considering getting the kitchen into the right place, albeit at some point this room will double in size

Utility room is elsewhere and we don't need a dining table in this room
