External intercom without constant video recording?

I live in a first floor flat in a two floor house. I'd like to be able to see who's at the door without having to traipse downstairs each time, but I don't think my downstairs neighbours are keen on Ring etc because it records all motion.

So basically I'm looking for the standard intercom you find at larger flats and let's me speak to the person at the door without actually having to open the door.

I'm not fussed about automatic door opening or anything, it's just an extra security precaution.

Does anyone know any companies who offer this from private flats?

Do you mean constant video recording, or do you just mean a video intercom which lets you see who is at the door (but doesn't record)?

Yes the latter. Just want to see who is at the door and speak to them. I don't want to record at all really.

You can set the Ring doorbell only to video actual 'rings' and turn off the motion sensor setting.

You also cannot save the recordings to view later unless you pay £25 a year for the storage, so if that is a concern just don't pay the extra.

I think you mean what we (used to?) call a doorphone.

person outside presses your doorbell, it buzzes in your flat, you pick up handset and say yes? Who's that?

if you've previously had one, there will be wiring from your flat to a connection by the front door. If not, it might be some work to run it, with the agreement of other residents.

I have one but hardly ever use it as there is a cam pointing at the front path, and a PIR with internal chime, so I generally know when someone is arriving.

here are some examples. I see there are wireless ones now.

Thank you. Both the Ring or the doorphone might be options. No wiring currently so I'd have to speak to neighbour about doorphone.
