Hmmm I think the areas getting better but everyone I know whose moved there has had the reaction of ‘ooooh St Mellons…good luck’. Maybe check out some local community Facebook pages etc and school reports etc.

Old St Mellons and Pontprennau are separated by Llanrumney. Not sure where you’re actually looking to be able to advise. Confused

On that map- Lisvane, Castleton, Marshfield really nice but expensive areas. St. Mellons, Llanrumney, Llanedeyrn not good really. Pontprennau is somewhere in between. Industrial estates and places like DFS there.

What is your budget and what are you looking for?

NavigatingAdolescence · 05/07/2021 00:17

Ah. those new houses. They’re very close to a big retail park but otherwise in something of a no man’s land.

Agree with the post above.

Personally I'd look for somewhere in a more established area with shops, schools, cafés etc nearby if your budget will stretch to it. We used to live on a modern development with far fewer amenities than where we are now, and the move has made so much difference to our lifestyles and the ease of meeting people and settling into a new area.

Somewhere around Roath Park down to Waterloo Gardens, for example. That's further from the motorway though, if that's what was leading you to look over on the east side of the city.

Rhiwbina or maybe Whitchurch in the north are nice too - good access out of the city via J32 on the M4 or on the A470 north, or cycle into the city on the Taff Trail.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that area at all. It is newbuild city though.
