Hitchin/Letchworth Garden City Flight Path

Hi All!

Looking at moving over the next year, and one of the potential areas is the Hitchin/Letchworth Garden City/Baldock area.

I don't know much about them, but my main question is about the flight path for Luton...I know a couple of people who live up that way and they've never mentioned it, and seem to quite like where they live. However, I would love some more opinions on any flight path disturbance there, whether it be noise or pollution etc... A quick Google does bring up some questions around this and various petitions, so any first hand experience would be greatly appreciated

Also any other useful information about these areas won't go amiss!

Thanks :)

I have relatives in Welwyn GC and they have no problem with plane noise.

Hitchin is nice and not affected where I am. Letchworth is mixed but ok.

The aircraft landing at Luton come in over Stevenage and they are quite high up at that point so not a real noise nuisance. Hitchin and Letchworth are fine (I've lived in all 3 towns over the years).

You might see petitions because the local parliamentary constituency is 'Hitchin and Harpenden' and includes the villages under the flightpath.

They’re too high up over Hitchin and Letchworth way. You wouldn’t notice them.
It’s a matter of looking sultry Flightradar24 to see the paths, times and their flying altitude.

InaccurateDream · 05/07/2021 00:32

I’m in Letchworth and barely notice planes. Occasionally we will see one when our and think, ahh, that must come from Luton.

And yes Hitchin more sought-after but you get more for your money in Letchworth. All depends on what you need. Baldock a good choice too.

JustMeAndWheatley · 05/07/2021 07:22

I used to live between Hitchin and Luton and rarely noticed aircraft noise because of the flight paths.
A few miles down the road, in villages like Whitwell, it was very intrusive. Friends there used to say that they’d miss bits of tv programmes when an aircraft flew over.

JustMeAndWheatley · 05/07/2021 07:23

Hitchin much nicer than Letchworth or Baldock.

I love letchworth. .but I don't live there but not far away. It has a great open air pool, nice town centre, library, cinema and shops.

I live in Letchworth and we have no issue with plane noises (Willian Way). I prefer Letchworth to Hitchin and really not trying to be bias as we had an option to live in either towns.

Letchworth has as nice a town, better housing housing (Hitchin alot of terrace housing with no parking), Hitchin is like a concrete jungle in comparison. Plus Letchworth has more facilities as noted in the previous comment.
Just drive around both areas and see.
