Top of chain now wants to buy

Just utterly fed up. We were told the top of the chain were going to be moving into rental. Now it seems they've decided to buy after all. Just beyond fed up now. It's taken long enough for chain to form but was happy to wait.

Nothing else much to buy either. Why can't people just do what they say?!

They may have realised how difficult it is to rent at the moment! We considered renting but it is nigh on impossible, houses going in hours and none willing to consider a child and cats when demand is so high they can pick anyone they want.

Agree this is why we haven't said we would, and neither did our sellers (who are buying the place).

But obviously if you say yes we are going to move into rental people get on with things and the chain looks complete. Now everyone instead of looking towards getting exchange is just staring at nothing.

Yep this happened to me. Spent £1300 on survey after being told twice seller was going to move in to rented, then told oops no has to port mortgage so has to buy. Two and a half months later gave up waiting. I, however, told my buyers I would move out and I have, into expensive holiday let as on my next house purchase the seller pulled out! I have kids and dogs so it isn't easy but I made it happen.

That sounds very frustrating @Livingintheclouds ! We don't have to move so we can be a little more flexible about things if needbe, but it's being told one thing and then doing another that's the annoying part. We are 4th along the chain so god knows how the people at the bottom must be feeling!

We had the opposite problem when the bottom of the chain announced that they had a property to sell.

Thankfully it didn't hold us up too long. Hoping for a similar outcome for you.

Yup we are in the same position. We agreed a sale of our house in Feb. We our our offer on theirs in March. They said they would go into rented.

2 weeks ago we were ready to exchange - vendors suddenly announced they were buying a new build that is still a plot at this moment. They want an open ended completion date. So not only have they cost me £7 in stamp duty so far, they also want me to miss the reduced offer as well….

In our area there's very little to rent so maybe they've literally not found anywhere? Xx
