Hi,
We are planing to move to the area in few weeks time - relocating from Twickenham. My DD currently goes to St Marys school in Twickenham at present and we would prefer not to change the school.
Is anyone aware of any childminder who can do the pick up after school? Any help/ suggestions re commute will be appreciated. Thank you 😊

I might be missing something, but can’t you just stick with whatever childcare you’re currently using? I’m not sure I’d describe moving within comfortable walking distance as relocating.

We are currently in Twickenham and planning to move to Whitton. The school distance from Whitton to St marys school is not walkable - would need to drive. Hence was looking for a childminder who could pick up my DD from school and drop her to our house or possibly . At present, I just pick her up from school as the distance is 10 mins walk.

That's not what Childminders do. They generally up several children from the school and take them back to the Childminders home, where they are cared for until being picked up by their parents. They do not provide a taxi service to collect children from school and deliver them home. A nanny would do a school pickup, but it sounds like you're not needing care just transport.

Sorry!! Sent the message in a rush - yes will be looking for my Dd to be with the childminder for the remainder of the afternoon and I shall pick her up. But my main Q lies if there are any childminders who would do that from St Marys school considering the distance?
Thanks

You're unlikely to find one living locally to you that collects from a school in a different area. Because Childminders usually have to care for multiple children to make it financially viable, they can generally only collect from 1 or maybe 2 local schools. I would suggest that your first call should be to the school to check if they have a list of Childminders that pick up from the school. The school that I pick up from did this. Alternatively, you can check with your local council's childcare support department for the list of carers within walking distance of your home and then call them to see if they have spaces and if they can facilitate picking up from a school slightly out of area.

Why can't you have a cm that's local to the school then you pick up from there? Confused Far easier that way round than finding one near you that's prepared to travel to a distant school and therefore not be able to pick up and charge for any other kids.

Thank you both for your valuable suggestions - having a nightmare trying to find the best way out!
Also are you aware of any decent nurseries in the area?
