How long should this take? What stages need to be gone through? We are joint freeholders and both parties are extending leaseholds so both in agreement that it should go ahead.

This question is bringing back painful memories of when we extended a lease about 15 years ago (but circumstances were different and we were doing it on our own with bastard freeholder, not with joint freehold!)

Anyway, you need these people https://www.lease-advice.org. There's tons of invaluable advice on there.

Thank you! We both just bought the freehold and that went through in April so I am surprised this has been taking so long. I chased solicitor today and it sounds like we have been forgotten about(I guess then leasehold team have been helping out the conveyancers to deal with the 30th June rush!). I'm a bit frustrated as we need leasehold extended to release some equity and we are in a rush too!!

We did this when we sold our flat last year. From memory it was super easy. There were three flats, all joint freeholders, and we all extended at the same time. There was an admin fee with the solicitors but it wasn't huge. I don't remember it taking long at all but it was wrapped up in our sale so we only needed it to go as fast as that. From our side it was just getting everyone to sign a piece of paper.
