Anyone know Sawbridgeworth..?

We are slowly planning our move out of the London suburbs and into East Hertfordshire... does anyone know/have experience of living in Sawbridgeworth?

What's the community like? Would you say it's a good place for a young family?

It's a lovely village but as with all of these things it's hard to get a real 'feel' as a visitor.

The schools look great and there's so many lovely villages and towns around to access lots of facilities (Bishops Stortford, Epping, Hertford, Ware etc etc.) and still an easy commute into Liverpool Street...

Any opinions would be appreciated! Smile

Friend of mine lives there it's lovely, I don't know about traffic/commutes etc though and she only has a stepdaughter who doesn't go to school there so not massively helpful!

Thanks @KingdomScrolls! Good to hear - and presumably they are happy there? (even though they are not using the schools etc).

We have friends in Bishops Stortford, Hertford and Stanstead Abbots and everyone is very very happy in those areas 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Yes very happy, I know there are good grammars in bishop Stortford another friend's son attends one. We've been to a lovely pub and another excellent restaurant there with them and there are some good antique shops. It's very popular with commuters so the journey into London must be ok. There seem to be a lot of community events in normal times. It can be a bit like parts of London, fancy coffee, £8 loaves and some cringily refer to it as Sawbo.... I'd live there

Thanks @KingdomScrolls - really good to hear. Having grown up/lived in London all my life, good coffee and a wildly expensive loaf of bread is quite reassuring 😂.

It always seems a very lovely place with a good vibe, so good to hear....

I've lived in Sawbridgeworth previously - no complaints - couple of nice restaurants, pubs and cafes. Lovely walks, reasonably regular trains.
The budgens in fine for picking bits up in the week but really you need to go to Harlow or Stortford for a proper shop.

But if we could have afforded to we'd have preferred to live in Bishop's Stortford - more going on and faster/more regular trains, whilst still having a lot of charm and character.

I guess it depends how much you want more of a village or a town.

Traffic is a nightmare - you will spend hours queuing in traffic on the A1184. There are 1000s of new houses being built in Stortford without any new infrastructure. Stortford used to be great but it’s horrible now.

Mollylikestodance · 28/06/2021 20:36

@Galley649 thanks very much! B.Stortford is lovely and to be honest I have been looking (Rightmove looking, not real looking) at houses there too as there are more facilities and more to do.

I think I need to wander around the residential streets and get an understanding on what side is better to live in etc.

@thereinmadnesslies I agree the local traffic there is nuts. BUT we live in a busy area of London already and so I'm not sure anything will compare to where we are now 😂 but thank you

Sawbridgeworth is lovely. I’d move there tomorrow if I could. I’m not sure about schools but there is a station with connections to Liverpool St and a Budgens. Lots of areas to walk and several antique shops, and a few takeaways and restaurants. I have a good friend who lives there and she’s very happy.

Very good schools Levanthorpe in S & several in BS
there is a train station
I use to live in BS & would be happy to live in Sawbo
(Harlow College is good for vocational qualifications & Harlow Town Park is lovely,!)

Forgot! You can get a direct train to Cambridge & Stansted Airport is nearby -which may -eventually!- be useful

I know someone who lived there and was working in the City, good for commuting into London and she liked it there. Schools are good. We found it a bit small but depends what you are after. Also liked Bishops Stortford, Ware and Hertford around that area.
