Another help with layout thread please! Kitchen/living/dining...island or not?!

I think we need a fresh pair of eyes please.

We have had a big wrap around extension done, plan attached. We had planned to either have a breakfast bar at the end by the bifold doors, or a long Island running along the centre. It is a big kitchen, but could do with more work surface. There is a separate utility, and at the moment dining table is on other 'arm' of the L.

The kitchen is a temporary one for now, we will look to change it in a couple of years, but the layout will essentially stay the same. Range on far wall, sink under window.

Are we missing something? Would we be better off running something along the opposite wall, or stick with an island? Go back to breakfast bar? Neither?!

Thank you all.

Hi OP, assuming it's reasonably chunky I really like it with the island. I think it makes more of a statement, is more useable, and won't dissect the room as much. Both great options though!

I was very anti-islands but I got talked into one and now I love it. The flow of the kitchen is better. And there’s more workspace than you realise because you can move around the corner. The dc sit on the other side to help bake (and aren’t under my feet). It’s a very social space but at the same time, it sets a boundary to the kitchen too.

Saying that though, I think your peninsula design is also lovely. It’s a lovely space.

Island all the way. It makes sense.
