Hi I’m moving to a new house and plan to do an extension but the vendor won’t tell me where the kitchen is we from so that I can add extra units and had for quite nasty after me asking… am I being unreasonable?

Kitchen for reference ibb.co/d0Wfvgf

Sometimes you can't get identical units as companies discontinue ranges anyway.
When I extended my kitchen I employed a local independent kitchen fitter. He sourced a match for me, even though my kitchen was discontinued. We couldn't match the handles, so he changed them all.

KitchenWarrior · 26/06/2021 08:16

Our kitchen in previous house was second hand from a friend of a friend. We cut it down, replaced the bendier shelves and repainted. I wouldn't have the faintest idea where it had come from and it looked as good as new.

Maybe they have done similar and don't want to admit?

ScarlettDarling · 26/06/2021 08:16

@AnotherKrampus

Pretty uggly, why would you want more of that...!
Totally unnecessary. And ‘ugly’ only has one ‘g’
NotMeNoNo · 26/06/2021 08:20

It's a very common design, nearly all the kitchen suppliers do a version of it. If it's IKEA the drawers will be quite deep front to back.
If its fairly new you could ask for instructions/guarantees of the appliances.

EveryoneIsThere · 26/06/2021 08:22

How did you ask? Was it through the estate agent? Also, how was the seller nasty? How many times have you viewed the house?
I'd have answered your question if I'd been the seller but I'd be nervous you we're going to start asking lots of questions and being a pain.
I think it's better to keep contact to a minimum if possible.

GrandmasCat · 26/06/2021 08:23

Looking at the shallow depth of the top cabinets I would say this kitchen is from Wickes.

That would also explain why they don’t want to tell you.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/06/2021 08:25

Looks like my wickes cupboards

TheGoodEnoughWife · 26/06/2021 08:27

Looks like ours from Ikea. If it is an IKEA one then they probably bought white goods at the same time and something will have IKEA written on it.

@AnotherKrampus Rude and pointless post.

No need.
GoWalkabout · 26/06/2021 08:29

My ddad just sold a house and by the end of the process he was having a panic attack and three sleepless nights for every email that came in with a question however benign. Its not necessarily you, its just the process getting to them maybe.

Ariela · 26/06/2021 08:32

All you have to do is post photos of the fixtures and fittings of the cupboards close up as soon as you get in on here.
Soon get answers.

tiredanddangerous · 26/06/2021 08:34

I expect they're worried you'll ask for a discount if they tell you it's an IKEA kitchen. Either that or they don't want to think about changes being made to their house once they've moved out.

Petronius16 · 26/06/2021 08:38

Back of a lorry perhaps?

NotMeNoNo · 26/06/2021 08:39

I agree, start your search at Wickes.

ChubbyMsSunshine · 26/06/2021 08:40

I think they're howdens. We had units like that in our old kitchen, but unfortunately howdens are trade only I think?

ChubbyMsSunshine · 26/06/2021 08:41

But yes very very odd response from the sellers!!

Are you ok hun? Having a bad day already?

Blinkingbatshit · 26/06/2021 08:44

Eek - it’s a really generic style so will be difficult to pin down the exact brand without them telling you. Fwiw ours look the same and they’re from Howdens.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 26/06/2021 08:46

I also thought Howdens. the goodness is with so many ppl thinking they match you should be able to find something reasonably easily!

LivingLaVidaCovid · 26/06/2021 08:46

What dicks! Inwould expect they do so other weird stuff when moving out if they are that het up over the kitchen manufacturer.

Fwiw It looks exactly like our howdens kitchen handles look similar too.

www.howdens.com/help-and-advice/inspiration/kitchen-inspiration/shaker-kitchen-ideas

I can see you have about half and half howdens vs ikea.
The unit size will tell you if it is ikea or not they have non standard sizing.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 26/06/2021 08:47

*good news Grin

DoingItMyself · 26/06/2021 08:48

Magnet, Somerton or similar range.

Benjispruce3 · 26/06/2021 08:48

How strange. Looks quite standard though, visit the major showrooms and see.

Boohooyouho · 26/06/2021 08:53

Looks a lot like our magnet kitchen as well.m so should be easy enough to source extras.
