Hi I’m moving to a new house and plan to do an extension but the vendor won’t tell me where the kitchen is we from so that I can add extra units and had for quite nasty after me asking… am I being unreasonable?

Very odd (if they know and won’t tell you). Maybe they’re offended that you’re extending their beloved house??

BarbaraofSeville · 26/06/2021 07:07

To me it looks like a standard high street kitchen, that could have been painted to freshen it up. So Ikea, Wickes, B&Q, Symphony, DIY kitchens or Howdens. Have a look at shaker kitchens on those websites.

Ikea sizes are also different to Wickes, B&Q etc. They come in 40, 60, 80, 100 cm widths, where the others are usually 50 or 100, so if those units under the window are 60 cm, that's probably your answer - Ikea. The extractor does look like Ikea I think.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 26/06/2021 07:10

Howdens or benchmark

IFinallyJoinedNowWhat · 26/06/2021 07:16

You should be able to tell if it’s from IKEA - I used to work in the kitchen department (disclaimer - it was a while back) and their cabinets didn’t have a service gap at the back. If the interior measures about 58cm deep then it’s more likely to be IKEA. If it’s less than that, then it won’t be theirs.

Twoforthree · 26/06/2021 07:20

I though 60 was standard

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 26/06/2021 07:20

You don't need to know, there are about 5 places posters are sure it's from so you'll have no trouble finding a match Grin

Obvioulsy a style that's done by all the big kitchen places

Heronsnest · 26/06/2021 07:25

Once you’re in the house and can have a proper rummage maybe you’ll find a clue inside the cupboards - batch or model number.

We’re just getting a Howden’s kitchen installed and I’ve got units in 20, 40, 50, 60 and 100 installed so that’s not just an IKEA thing.
FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 26/06/2021 07:31

They look pretty generic, I don't think you'll have trouble matching them once you're in.

The depth won't really matter if you're putting the new ones on a different wall.

Luminousnose · 26/06/2021 07:33

60cm is standard because itks the width of most appliances.

Luminousnose · 26/06/2021 07:34

.... and I can’t type!

camouflagejacket · 26/06/2021 07:35

Have you asked a lot of questions? Houses are really 'sold as seen' and they may be worried your next question will be about the wiring or the boiler, which may be more uncomfortable territory.

stuckinarutatwork · 26/06/2021 07:44

It's a fairly standard shaker kitchen that you should be able to match the style fairly easily. Matching the colour could be a bit trickier but you could always paint the old and new units to match each other (Frenchic Alfresco paint is excellent for this).

tara66 · 26/06/2021 07:46

Soon as I saw them I thought Ikea.

Summerfun54321 · 26/06/2021 07:51

I expect they’re being snappy because they’re worried you’re going to be bothering them asking all sorts of questions rather than find out yourself. There’s usually some kind of clue somewhere (underneath a drawer), brand of hinges, type of handles or trim. You could always just unscrew a small drawer front and take to some showrooms and ask.

newnortherner111 · 26/06/2021 07:52

If it's an uncomfortable question for them, a red flag is raised for me. Hopefully not the case, but I would be suspicious of them tax avoiding, or not wanting you to know given new house building guarantees, for example.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 26/06/2021 07:59

@AnotherKrampus

Pretty uggly, why would you want more of that...!

Rude

BrightShark · 26/06/2021 08:03

@AnotherKrampus

If you don’t have anything nice or helpful to say, keep quiet.

You are the epitome of what’s wrong with mumsnet. A benign thread about kitchen cabinets and people like you find a way to be snipey bitchy and rude. Unbelievable

BrightShark · 26/06/2021 08:04

Oh and I see @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango agrees so I’m not the only one calling you out

FreshHorizons · 26/06/2021 08:08

It seems a simple enough question to me. Very odd behaviour.

Therunecaster · 26/06/2021 08:08

@oknowimscared

Looks like Howdens to me
I have this kitchen in Sage from Howdens
TatianaBis · 26/06/2021 08:09

Could be Magnet.

If you’re adding an extension I would change all the doors anyway as those are quite grim. Then it doesn’t matter who made the the existing kitchen.

BBOA · 26/06/2021 08:11

We have that kitchen but with different handles. Some people are so rude on here!!
I’m pretty sure it’s Howdens and Burford range in cream.

MrMucker · 26/06/2021 08:13

Specific kitchen units come from manufacturers, not from shops. Even if you found the name of the supplier it does not mean you could still get it from them.
All you need to do is get a kitchen fitter to come and give you a quote, and they'll know whether you can still get those units or not, and they might know of several places to get them.
I 'd find your question a bit weird as a vendor tbh. Depends how far you are in the buying process, but often a buyer can suddenly decide they are going to pay less for the property based on "facts" they have established late in the day. Because a custom kitchen is far more costly than a supplied one, they might think that telling you they bought it "off the shelf" will give you a bargaining chip.
If they don't want to answer, just leave it. You have bigger fish to fry with your house completion coming up.

IntoAir · 26/06/2021 08:14

A good builder will be able to match the units. Shrug your shoulders at your vendor and move on.

As a vendor, I never want to have anything to do with a purchaser. It’s business
Not a personal relationship. They may not know, they may not care.

Move on.
