Cost of wooden sash windows

We've just had a quote for £4.5k for wooden sash windows in a large bay and two large flat fronted windows above.

As is the way at the moment, we've contacted a lot of other companies but can't even manage to get them to send us a quote so we've got no idea if this is reasonable or not!

Does this sound like a decent price? Has anyone had wooden sashes fitted recently and how much did they cost?

Thanks!

Sounds about right. We had a UPVC replica sash bay window and it was £2.5k; a single UPVC sash was £950. We were told wood would be double that.

sounds about right. It's pretty close to what I paid 3 years ago.

I think ours were about £1k per window for plain flat windows, not too big. So that sounds about right for a bay and 2 large windows. Softwood with I think Tikkurila Ultra finish.

Had a recent quote of £1300 per window for 8ft x 4ft windows.

Thanks for the replies. That's really helpful. Had another quote for the same job today that was £10.5k Shock so I think we're going to go with this one!

If you can, get them to make them from hardwood not softwood then you won’t be going through this process in another few years. We had some soft wood ones put in 10 years ago and they need replacing!
