Has anyone had a HJ kitchen fitted?

Am looking at the Linear Edge. Like it a lot! In-frame, drawers only. Straight run of base cabs with island. No wall cabs. Tall larder cupboard.

Would source worktop and appliances elsewhere.

Just had a look at some old threads. They weren’t positive (understatement) re fitting, service and aftercare.
This would be out of the Bath showroom.

I had very similiar Cabinets from John Lewis of Hungerford, which I always though was slightly cheaper, but may no longer be. Fitted from Wandsworth Bridge Rd branch, and they were excellent.
I love the look - clean lines and modern. I had it in the very dark navy with white marbley stone worktops.

So much depends on the fitters.

There's a narrow dishwasher to right of sink, the tap is Quooker and behind that tall cabinet is the boiler.

Went to them recently for a quote and they quoted me the same as Devol and Smallbones did. But bear in mind they don’t actually don’t do ‘solid wood’ anything, only wood frames on the doors (found this out during our appointment after a lot of questioning) so you need to compare them with other ‘mass market’ ‘made in the UK’ kitchen providers like Howdens / John Lewis / Benchmarx. I was so gutted. We wasted a lot of time with them.

Our quote was based on standard cabinet sizes too & their priority seemed to be getting the sale at all costs rather than on useable design. So be really careful.

Thanks for everyone’s input.

Lovely kitchen @LittleOverWhelmed
Your island (corner seating) is what I’d like.

What’s the ‘handling fee’ for the appliances? Is this to fit them into the cabinets? I will have to ask the chap at the showroom.

I love love love my HJ two years on. We’ve got a Linear but considered the Edge but I was worried about food and kid gak getting caught in the groove! Hate to be a doom monger but when the painter came I was talking about the Edge design and he said he said that he didn’t know why HJ did them as the paint wears off where you use the edge to open them.. logical really!

Words of advice: hold out for 40% discount which they will offer if you play hard ball enough and source your own work surfaces which come in about 50% cheaper.

The quality is amazing - go for it!

We are looking at having our ground floor and kitchen remodelled and are considering a Harvey Jones kitchen. Advice on this needed as to quality and other options as well as potential costs expected (worth it.?) ... Thanks in advance..

TuxedoJunction · 30/04/2022 10:34

We inherited a Harvey Jones kitchen when we bought our current property. Kitchen is now 12 years old and still looks amazing.
we didn’t install it, but know previous owners sourced and had fitted the granite worktop themselves. All appliances are Miele and we’re sourced through HJ I believe.

Smokeyjoe2011 · 30/04/2022 11:45

Hi Tuxedojunction, thanks for your reply. That's reassuring as this will be our last and final work we do on our kitchen and just need to make the right choices. Thanks. 🙂

I put a HJ kitchen in my last house and while I loved it, it didn't wear particularly well, it needed repainting. It was an inframe design. This time I went for a very similar look from DIY kitchens and honestly I love it more, I would never spend Harvey Jones price tag again.

HomeKarma · 25/06/2022 18:30

Hi, we have just had the initial appointment with HJ Wilmslow but are a little sceptical at the £1500 fee to take the process further. Really like the style as we’re about to renovate our period home so the style and quality seem perfect for what we’re looking for. Had a very disappointing design by Tom Howley who didn’t include what we’d asked for and put a fridge 8m away from the coffee station! And led us to believe they’re bespoke but aren’t. We weren’t impressed although thankfully didn’t have to pay a fee for the design- just wasted a lot of our time in the presentation and meeting. Really like your HJ kitchen. Would you be able to give an idea of cost as we’ve been told between 40-50,000 which is around what we thought but is quite a variant and we’re worried to be committed once the £1500 is paid if costs escalate! Sorry for all the questions! X

@HomeKarma I appreciate this is a while ago but I wondered if you ever went for HJ? We are in a similar situation at the minute! Thanks :)

Hannajs · 20/06/2024 06:52

@littlemisssunshine32 hello, did you go with Harvey jones ?? I’m considering it but they have gone into administration so I’m not sure what to do.
