Exchange/completion

Hi wise mumsnetters... We are FTBs and in the process of purchasing a house. We have had all searches back, now waiting on the enquiries.

When it comes to date of exchange or the completition, is it possible to choose a date that you would prefer? For example, we have a few loose ends that need to be tied up and the best date for us to move would be in September. Could we inform the solicitor for this to be arranged? Or is it completely impossible and the date at that point in time, is the date you have?

Btw, the property is chain free. The process began in March and has been quite a slow one...

You can request a date but it depends what the sellers want a well. Normally people are trying to complete in a hurry rather than delaying. It might be worth speaking to the EA in the first instance to understand the plans of the sellers and when they want to move to see if September works for them.

Dates are a negotiation. You can suggest dates, snd thr other side agrees or suggests their own. Nobody dictates when exchange and completion happens, you agree on it.

Exactly this.

Dates are negotiable. I’d mention your preferences to EA and Solicitor and they can discuss with seller.
