Am I mad to quite like a coloured bathroom suite?

In the right house….with the right decoration. ?

Just seen a house with one on a thread here and though…you know…that doesn’t look that bad.

I love them. I've been saying to DH for the last five or so years that they're going to be back in soon.

FijiCavanaugh · 24/06/2021 21:25

I love the powder blue ones. All the pastels are quite nice but think dark coloured ones remain awful.

EastWestWhosBest · 24/06/2021 21:28

I remember them. My mum hated them but I used to love the blue one at my aunts house. I remember in the 90s when “white suite” was listed as a selling point of a house.

@mysterymile

Imagine a dark navy suite against white tiling, why isn't this a thing
I would love that. But I remember trying to wash the cleaning stuff off a coloured bath and it always looking streaked/chalky.

My grandma had a blue bath and I always pretended I was in a pool when I used it.

I love a coloured bathroom and often covet ones I see on instagram or Broken Bog. Not the blah colours like pampas but a lovely pink or mint green or yellow one with nice flooring and tiles, not depressing manky looking vinyl. Someone I know installed a reclaimed avocado suite not that long ago with black and white flooring, white tiles with dark grout and plants everywhere and it looked pretty good.

We live in a very hard water area though and it would be a nightmare to keep it looking decent.

@AnnieSnap

I remember it all first time around, so I’m wary about having anything but white. I used to have a Damask bathroom suite 😮 This was not mine, but it gives you an idea 🥴
My first house had one of these, we could never afford to change it.
JaninaDuszejko · 24/06/2021 21:46

A navy bath suite might look great in a soft water area

I grew up in Scotland so it was not an issue for my parents and their navy suite.

Petrarkanian · 24/06/2021 21:47

I have a pink loo and sink, cost £23 on eBay.
We love it.
When we redo the downstairs loo I want a blue one.

EastWestWhosBest · 24/06/2021 21:49

Don’t forget you’ll need coloured toilet paper to match.

Somanysocks · 24/06/2021 21:50

Friend growing up had a dark brown suite, not so good. Ours was whisper pink.

What if you have a brown suite? Grin

We had a peach suite in the 90s and my mum refused to ever buy any loo roll other than peach to match it.

DinosaurDiana · 24/06/2021 21:51

I think white bathrooms can be very cold looking.
Mine is pale cream.

Justletmebuyahouse · 24/06/2021 21:52

I’m definitely going to have a coloured concrete sink in my next bathroom but not sure that’s what you mean!

NewHouseNewMe · 24/06/2021 21:53

I have a blue bathroom (tiles, toilet, bath - the works) and a green/avocado bathroom. Hopefully not for long..

theemmadilemma · 24/06/2021 21:53

@SuperSecretSquirrels

I think they are wonderful!

I remember seeing one where each item was a different colour. Looked great.

Yes I saw one like that I loved!
VenusClapTrap · 24/06/2021 22:01

I grew up with a pastel pink Art Deco bathroom. It was amazing. My dp ripped it out in the nineties and even then I thought it was a terrible mistake.

Funnily enough I was looking at orange concrete sinks yesterday and wondering if I could persuade Dh this would be just the thing for the downstairs loo.

PurplePosies · 24/06/2021 22:02

I love them! We bought a renovation project a few years ago and the only room we have haven't fully overhauled is the bathroom, because the turquoise suite is awesome! We've made it all kitschy with big plants, ornate gold mirror etc, I bloody love it Grin

AndeanMountainCat · 24/06/2021 22:02

Ours was pale yellow, with a matching yellow wooden shelving unit up the wall at the tap end (there was no shower). Really sunny.

The patterned carpet, however, was absolutely hideous.

The ones like this from back in the day are hideous, but new versions are lovely, completely different league.

I love them! I'm viewing a house next week almost entirely on the strength of its original pale pink bathroom suite.

user64325 · 24/06/2021 23:18

I absolutely love them. I get really upset seeing people rip them out! My favourite would be a turquoise and pink bathroom but I'd be happy with even a brown one.

Spiders, that's why. You wouldn't be able to see the little bastards hiding would you?

I'd die of paranoia.

CheerfulBunny · 24/06/2021 23:35

I've moved into OHs house and he has a shell pink suite because he couldn't give a crap about his house in all honesty which initially horrified me. I've tried to embrace it and given the bathroom a 'Miami beach' tropical theme, installing a shower curtain with big leaves and parrots, plants etc. I can live with it by pretending I'm in The Golden Girls, I guess, but it's nice to know that we may actually be bang on trend.

Itsmemaggie · 24/06/2021 23:37

I saw a house for sale recently, it was a renovation project, with a bright orange bathroom suite. It was a thing of wonder. Unfortunately, I didn’t like the location, plot, style of house and I have no money, so wasn’t able to snap up the house and design the entire project to compliment my new snazzy bathroom.
