How dusty was your house once the furniture was out?

We had packers and I was quite shocked at the amount of dust left behind - is this normal? I'm a very frequent cleaner but we live in a small flat. To make matters worse the cleaner told me it was really unclean and I had a small cry in the car.

Mine was very dusty. Some things just don’t get moved to clean behind.

Cleaner is a tit. Bloody hell, send her round mine, I'll give her something to complain about!

So dusty behind anything that was electronic or really heavy so rarely moved, though it all came away easily.

Our movers actually complained about it worst house ever apparently though not during the move when they said there was no issues, only after we tried to complain that we'd had to call out an emergency plumber after they'd bodged out washing machine back in and left some furniture and parts of our bed behind. It was still a gut punch, both my spouse and I felt awful and questioned ourselves, though I've been trying to take it with a pinch of salt.

I moved everything out and cleaned behind/under it before the movers came so it left me far less to worry about on the day. But yeah, it was pretty grim. Will I move everything out regularly in this house? Probably not. Grin

If you have good quality furniture it’s hard to pull it out for cleaning. Given you had a (rude) cleaner sorting it your buyers won’t have anything to complain about. They will probably clean themselves anyway.

Cleaner may have been hoping for a tip, hence emphasizing it had been a lot of work. Just ignore.
It's impossible for it not to be dusty, unless you pull out and empty all of your furniture every week

Livingintheclouds · 24/06/2021 13:17

Well my regular cleaner did it so no complaints! But yes it practically looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in years. Especially behind paintings where cobwebs and dust collected, plus I had two wood burners which throw up alot of invisible particles until they settle.

Huge actual dust bunnies... I am pretty houseproud and pull furniture out to clean etc (but not every week). This was mostly from taking out bookshelves etc.... it definitely does not mean you are a dirty person!

I would ignore the comments (appreciate easier said than done though).

When we moved, one of the removal men commented on the amount of dust behind a huge solid wood, 4 doored wardrobe in our bedroom. There was no way we could have moved it, even if empty, to clean behind it, so there was 6 years worth of gathered dust!

I was stood waiting with the hoover to clean once they'd moved it, so it wasnt like i was going to just leave it.

ignore her comments.
we had lots of dust and 'treasures' behind heavy furniture.
it's normal.
