Moving home logistics

We're moving house next Wednesday (hurrah!!) and need to be out of the flat by 12.30.
Packing/removals arriving at 7. How do you then also organise a deep clean, as the new owner needs access from 12.30? What have others done in this situation? Thanks!!

We moved in Feb. Huge downsize for us. We packed ourselves, cleaned out kitchen cupboards two weeks before and cleaned them throughly, did not put anything back in.

All up early on moving day, showered, cleaned all bathrooms, just used downstairs loo (the last room to be cleaned before we left). Removers arrived at 8am, started loading, as each room was cleared, I hoovered. It was a very large house unfortunately after hoovering, once I got to the final hoover of the hall, the battery had run out! Thankfully our vendors had left our new home beautifully clean.

I always pack a box for the car, kettle, tea bags, coffee, milk, bread & butter, toaster.

A suitcase for each of us for what we will need for the next few days, so you aren’t pressured into unpacking quickly. Make sure box has a description of what’s inside, not just the room, makes things much easier.

All worked out ok for us, not that I fancy moving again in a hurry! Good luck OP, I hope your move goes well and wishing you good health & happiness in your new home.

Forgot to say, new owner won’t have access until completion has occurred, for us we didn’t complete on our new home until 16:10! Just bear in mind the day doesn’t always go completely to plan.

Keep the vacuum, mop and some spray and cloths to hand. Leave them in the bathroom - tell packers not to take anything from the bathroom (move bathroom packing to another room).

As they empty a room, go in and clean it.

They work fast!

It’s surprisingly easy to clean an empty house. Our removals arrived earlier than they said, about 7, they were done by 11:30. I stayed behind and cleaned - bathrooms and kitchen final clean (had cleaned cupboards as we emptied), it was really dusting walls abs skirting where furniture had been and vacuuming. Took an hour I think.

There’s no requirement for a deep clean to rentals standard.

It really is quite quick to clean and empty house! As the rooms are emptied trot around to dust, hoover and mop.

I've also packed myself and do a bit at a time. Mark each box with the room on it so the movers know where to put it.

I always pack a suitcase with a few outfits, toiletries, bed linen for everyone, pajamas for everyone and a towel each so I am not scuttling around trying to find something to wear. I pack an essentials box with the kettle, mugs, tea towels, washing up liquid, cat bowls and food and a bottle of wine. I pack all the important papers in my work bag. These and the cats come with me in the car.

When we were selling and moving at the same time I always planned in lunch somewhere because the keys may not be ready at noon.

As you pack fixed cupboards, like kitchen, clean out as you go.
Do a deep clean of bathroom and kitchen this weekend so just needs a wipe over.
As removers clear a room dust it and hoover through.
