Anyone else feel like they will never complete?!

We put our house on the market in September and sold the next day to FTB. Found somewhere to buy the following weekend.

Two months later vendor pulled out as they couldn’t find anywhere to buy, despite telling us repeatedly at the three viewings that they would rent.

Viewed that weekend and found second property to buy.

End of November it transpires our FTB can’t get a mortgage and have lied to us about progress. Give them deadline of 2nd Jan to sort.

2nd Jan no progress, house back on and sell again the same day.

Mid Feb second house falls through. The vendors lied about building regs, survey reveals major structural issues, lender pulls mortgage offer.

Found new house next weekend.

Completion set for April, then it transpires there are more houses in the chain than first thought, top of chain refusing to rent and can’t find house to buy. Mid May still no movement so complete on sale and move in with family.

End of May vendors pull out. Find house number 4!

Currently hoping and praying nothing goes wrong with this one. Is anyone else feeling like they will never move? We feel the whole universe is against us and so much of our lives are on hold.

That sounds like a severe run of bad luck OP, poor you!

Oh gosh that sounds awful, really feel for you! I originally was supposed to move 2 years ago, had a chain collapse, and then delayed everything because of covid. With hindsight obviously wish I'd carried on trying at the time!

Sharing your pain. My chain isn't complete and vendors are struggling to buy anywhere. I'm off to see a few more properties this week as I can up my budget a bit but could just end up in same situation. I'm pinning my hopes on one property that is empty and no onward chain.

It's tough at the moment trying to keep it all together.

Oh my god I think you’ve had the most unlucky house buying run!

I hope this goes through for you

Blimey OP, that is horrendous bad luck. Really hope that it works out this time.

We sold last June and found a house in July. We had long delays with the conveyancing which ended up taking until end of Jan to sort out. Then we had four months of excuses and delay from the top of the chain who was supposed to be moving into rental but was secretly looking for a house to buy. He found one but then started making excuses again nearer the agreed completion date. Someone further up pulled out and then very quickly had an offer accepted on a no chain house. So now we’re waiting for the conveyancing and survey etc to be done on the new top of the chain house and crossing our fingers that nothing else goes wrong!

I know what you mean about feeling your life is on hold. We had started packing so have boxes everywhere. There are also things we need like a new bed but we’re just waiting to get into the new house before ordering anything.

I'm on my third house. First one I was told seller would go in to rental but then they wouldn't, so I pulled out (and house has now been withdrawn from the market). Second house seller withdrew due to ill health, now on my third, chain free house. I've spent almost £5k in fees and survey, I completed on my sale and all my stuff is in storage and we are in an expensive holiday let as I thought it would only be a couple weeks before buying my next house. Missed stamp duty too and I stood to save full £12,500.
