DIY Kitchens Helmsley in Dakar or Dove Grey - HELP!

I know there have been many previous threads about the infamous helmsley, but we need to make a decision by tomorrow morning and I'm getting cold feet about our choice!

I was completely set on the dove grey and ordered a sample door along with a few others. But then I came across a beautiful helmsley kitchen on instagram in dakar. Unfortunately it wasn't one of the colours I ordered and we have run out of time to order more...not to mention the decision fatigue we are feeling at this stage of our renovations.

DH thinks it looks brown/beige, where as I heard it is more of a F&B french grey.

Does anyone have a DIY kitchen in either of these shades and if so, do you mind posting a pic or describing the shade for me? Also, what finish hardware did you go for?

I know it seems foolhardy to order a colour without seeing it in person, but my gut tells me it will go much better with our limestone flooring and aged brass taps. Also, we are in a cottage with exposed stone wall which I think calls for a bit more of a nod to a traditional cottage colour where I find the dove grey to look very stark and a little on the cold side.

Does it have greenish undertones or is it really a sort of muddy beigey grey?

TIA

I’m also deciding between both those plus mussel. None of them are my ideal colour. Dakar looks like a khaki to me so a definite green tinge. I don’t want to brown or green kitchen - I want a griege which I thought was mussel. However I was underwhelmed when I saw the mussel Stanbury kitchen it looked a bit old fashioned. I worried the dove grey will look cold. I’m probably going to have this kitchen for 15 years so I’m so nervous and I have to order on two weeks time. I feel your pain

I ordered Cashmere. Very happy. It’s a putty / greige.

saving inspirational images and ideas for my future kitchen was a lot more fun and stress free than actually having to make decisions and put up my hard earned cash... I have to press send tomorrow as it is holding up our extension/reno works. I'm frantically googling/pinteresting/instagram stalking. Why I had to go and change my mind I don't know Confused I am stumped really. Any new kitchen will be a vast improvement on what we currently have, but it's a tough decision that we will have to live with for a long time.

@Remmy123 do you have this colour? Is it a kind of khaki? is it more green or more brown?

We went for black handles and tap.

I've gone ahead and taken the plunge with dakar. My heart just wasn't in the dove grey. I'll let you know in a couple of months when it's delivered if it was a good decision or totally the wrong one Grin

I can't help specifically... but have you been on DIY kitchens pinterest page. They have a folder per kitchen style and lots of real examples of customer kitchens. I know you've finalised, but perhaps help to calm you in the meantime.

My client has just gone with Dakar for a Helmsley - sample door looks great
She had wanted to go bespoke but we needed

wonkylegs · 22/06/2021 19:44

Don't know what happened there
She was going to go bespoke but we needed to make some time savings and it was faster to go for a standard range.
We thought the Dakar looked browner onscreen but when it arrived it's more green/grey - it's beautiful.
It's going to be a stunning kitchen

Thanks, that is so reassuring! It looks really horrible on the DIY kitchens website, like a horrible sandy brown, but on instagram posts I've seen it looks more greenish and definitely more classy. We are teaming it with a quartz misterio worktop, antique brass hardware and taps and a limestone floor called hebron cream. Hopefully it all comes together as well in real life as I am imagining in my head!

@Muststopeating thanks for the tip, I'll take a look

Intrigued to know your thoughts after ordering blind! I am in a very similar predicament at the moment with my reno - need to order the kitchen asap - and I was always going for white but now considering a more earthy colour like Dakar or Limestone but have neither samples!! Please let me know / show me how it turned out and any suggestions?!

We went for Dakar and love it! It's a kind of French grey/pale sagey greeny grey. Hard to describe, but very classic and we always get complimented on it.

Dakar definitely had a brown tinge in the showroom so I was a bit worried choosing it for our kitchen. But it's definitely greenish grey. Very similar to our agate grey/painswick green front door actually.

TerrierOrTerror · 13/12/2024 10:26

We've just had Linwood in Dakar put in - it's a beautiful colour which does lean green.

@TheJunctionBaby glad you like it
Colour can be so subjective and screen colour is never accurate
