I have been viewing houses. There is one house that has sliding bolt latch on the outside of bedroom.

I can't stop thinking what are they for
It's a bolt without keys so I can imagine locking someone inside

Why would ppl put it on the outside?

We put one on our downstairs loo as otherwise the door swings open, plus DD is obsessed with getting in the. But there’s also one that was already here when we moved in: bolt on the outside but worse, no handle on the inside. Also a cat flap in the window. We call it The Creepy Room.

We put one on our spare bedroom door when our kids were toddlers. We keep our musical instruments and work paperwork on there. The kids were getting in and damaging stuff.
I'm tempted to put one on our bedroom door to lock it when we aren't in the room, to stop them getting into my makeup now 🙈

We had to put one on my son's door for his own safety as he went through a phase of climbing out of his cot or his travel cot, over stair gates - we had a stair gate at the top of the stairs but didn't want him to fall down the stairs after climbing over the gate. A bolt on his door felt the safest option. After a couple of nights he stopped trying to be Houdini and we didn't have to use it again.

Whenever I've seen bolts on the outside of a door they have been to stop small children getting in to the room for some reason - maybe because of an en suite or in one case, a teenager protecting his stuff from much younger siblings! Pretty feeble bolts though, not shed-type ones.
