Will we move house or not?! Will we or won't we move? Stamp duty rush and possible chain break.

I now know why people say that moving house is one of the most stressful things in life!
We're in a chain of 6 properties. FTB for ours so we're the second of the chain. Two days ago had an email from the solicitor to say that a suggested date for completion is 25th June. Bit shocked at the short notice as everything had gone so quiet up until then but would save on the stamp duty, so great.
However, today, the estate agent has been trying to find more info and told me that another estate agent said there was a possible chain break higher up. Our estate agent couldn't say anymore as she needed to speak to a specific person who wasn't available. So haven't heard anything more there. Tried contacting our solicitor who just has an answer phone on all the time.

It's so stressful and frustrating. If it's not going to happen, I just want to know. Don't know whether to even bother packing up now.

If there is a break in the chain, does this mean someone higher up has pulled out? Can a chain break ever still work out in time for completion? I've not been in this situation before.

Might the chain break be that someone higher up is moving into rented to secure and complete the chain beneath them. And they’ll continue with their upwards purchase once they’ve sold their house?

If someone higher than you is moving into rented that would break the chain and mean that anyone higher again who can’t complete by then is no longer slowing things down.

We are due to complete on 25th and mortgages already drawn down to make sure we can make that date...I wouldn’t think it’s realistic if everything isn’t well and truly set up to go to be honest, not based on our experience anyway.

I think that would be the best outcome if someone was to come out to go into rented accommodation. Someone in the chain must have pushed the 25th in the first place. But I just feel like we've been left hanging now. It's so frustrating when estate agents and solicitors don't keep you updated. If only the vendors could all speak to each other directly.

Our chain broke because our vendors suddenly magicked half a million from somewhere and managed to buy their new house before selling us this house. We exchanged at the same time though because my buyer was dicking around and I didn’t want them to cause chaos once our seller was committed.
