I’ve been living in my current rented property for 6 months. The agents have just sent me an email saying they will be coming to do an inspection next week and that due to COVID they require me to be out when they visit. I look after the property well, have absolutely no issues with them coming to inspect it at all, but I am feeling a little uneasy about a stranger entering and wondering around my home taking pictures of all my things when I’m not in. I have no idea who is coming, it just says a ‘member of staff’. Are they DBS checked?!
Am I overthinking and being unreasonable?! Is this normal and would I be seen as being uncooperative if I voiced my concerns?

Just say no. They can't insist you leave the property. Our inspections during the past 12 months have been with us present.

Thanks for this. I just feel like the demand to not be present is unreasonable. Especially when it is a complete stranger from a company! And I can’t see any COVID related reason for it being necessary at the moment. I kind of feel like I have to spend my weekend moving valuables out of my home 😫

There is no covid related reason for this. If six people are allowed to meet up indoors then what is their justification? Just say you will be there for the inspection.

This was my thought. If they can meet people in houses up for let or sale to try to sell the property, why can’t I be present for the inspection?! They haven’t requested a response, just told me they’re coming. I think I might just be here when they turn up!

Just say you are happy for them to inspect but you will be home. Windows will be open, masks worn by all and safe distance observed. Either that of they can put off until a date in the future when inspection can be carried out without the need for you to leave.

You are within your rights to say they can’t inspect at all. Just say no they can’t come?
