Kitchen renovation support thread

Anyone else going through kitchen renovation hell? We are week 2 here and still no usable space in the kitchen. Normal 3 bed 1930s semi but the kitchen diner needed the ceilings taking down which has taken a while and THERE IS DUST EVERYWHERE. It came up through the bloody carpets, vents, you name it!

We made our dinner on a camping stove tonight and washed our plates under the garden tap. Our 2yo is not amused. Displaced stuff everywhere.

Anyone else? I’m going a bit barmy now.

We’re into our 2nd week of a 5 ish week kitchen build.

Not been too bad so far - we’ve still got the sink going in the utility and one wall of worktop in there supporting microwave and portable induction plate. Dust has been an issue, but we’ve had all the windows open (except the room where the cat is living!) and the outside doors open which has kept things OK. I have a big vac and wipe down when they go at the end of the work day.

Trying to hold off on the takeaways until we lose access to the utility, and had the bbq on at the weekend.

I’m cooking in in the garage (electric pressure cooker) and washing dishes in the bathtub because the bathroom sinks are too small. Sad

Got at least 12 weeks of this left. Been doing it for 3. No washing machine. Didn’t even have floors for a big

Not yet... Build starts in two weeks and we will lose all access to downstairs including the kitchen for ten weeks... :Gulp:

We started 12 weeks ago and are nearing the end. Finally at the weekend we got a tap fitted. Running water in the kitchen is such a novelty. We've had the oven and hob for about a month, but it was a long 8 weeks without them.
Still need to fit skirting, splashbacks, and extractor fan hood, and finish off the painting. We've also got a matching utility/laundry larder to build, but for now a naked washing machine in the corner will be fine!

For those with longer builds, were you also extending/knocking down walls?
12 weeks seems a long time just finished for the kitchen part.

The extension part is almost done. 12 weeks is the lead time it will take to get tiles / kitchen fitted

We're starting ours in mid-August. It's a full renovation though for 12-14 weeks. I'd been planning for a temp kitchen in the garage...I'd totally forgotten about needing a washing machine!!!! Thankfully there's a sink in the garage for the waste water pipe 🤦🏼‍♀️

Blimey, these must be some big builds! We had our (I guess on the smaller side of average) kitchen fitted in two weeks, alongside a new stud wall and boiler move.

We booked it all in for the fortnight of our honeymoon. Best. Decision. Ever.

I’m starting on Monday, along with both bathrooms. 6-8 weeks roughly. Yuck.

One bathroom is being converted to a utility/WC and the other will be main bathroom with a bath and shower added. Little 2 bed terrace so utility will be next to the kitchen.

Am excited but only just recovered from front & back garden landscaping and new windows, doors rads etc last year.

I’m dreading the dust again.

Not sure I could handle several months of disruption - my recent kitchen reno was pretty much done and dusted in 2 weeks including switching boiler from system to combi.

Having said that, I do still have a bare plaster ceiling and unpainted walls as, despite several painters coming round to quote, none have bothered to get back to me with a figure. Grr.

Crikey some of you must have massive kitchens! My build will only be just over 2 weeks. Already fed up of micr0wave meals!

My build started on Monday and immediately it all went wrong as the electrics are too old and dangerous - had to urgently find someone to help with that before we can proceed.
