Hey everyone
I’ve never rented before, how does it work, do you pay deposit plus 1 month rent up front?
Or deposit then first month after 1 month of being in the house?
TIA

Usually deposit plus one months rent upfront.

Deposit and a month in advance is usual.
Deposit can vary so check with the LL how much it is.

Depends what your tenancy agreement says, it could be either way. In my experience, usually rent up front, but I have rented one place where I paid at the end of the first month.

I dont think you pay in arrears. So its deposit and first month initially, then you live there for a month. Then you pay more rent to live there for the following month etc etc etc

I paid a holding deposit, then deposit and a months rent

Deposit and a month upfront. You pay for the month ahead rather than in arrears

Rent is paid in advance.

Annoying because your salary is paid to you in arrears!

If this is England, read the how to rent guide on gov.uk. there's a rental property shortage which is encouraging crooked landlords who prey on clueless tenants, so get clued up.

You pay for accommodation in advance. Same as you pay for groceries before you eat them.
