Just what I said above really?
Is Denby Dale a nice area and is it in the catchment for Penistone grammar?

Thanks

Denby Dale is quite nice but I think it's pushing to say it's in Penistone Grammar catchment as its in Kirklees/West Yorkshire not South Yorkshire. I think it's either Skelmanthorpe or Shelley for High School round there. Penistone Grammar this year seems to have quite a wide range as some people from Deepcar have got in but other year intakes have been quite small I think.

As pp said, I think it'd be Shelley.

I am biased as my daughter goes into the first year of PGS in September and it is usually over subscribed I think. It is very strict I've heard but gets good results and people move to Penistone to get into the school.

Kdubs1981 · 07/06/2021 16:08

Nope!!

Kdubs1981 · 07/06/2021 16:09

Sorry! Posted too soon. Different county I'm afraid. Are you wanting to move into the area a d you've seen PG is a good school?

Nicky2021 · 07/06/2021 16:13

Yes I need to move home and I’m looking at areas based on the school. I had a look for catchment area for PGS and it looked like Denny Dale was in the range but I wanted to see if anyone had experience of this as I thought it was strange seen as Denny Dale is Huddersfield
Thanks everyone

Shelly college is the secondary school for denby dale
Pls stops at the Kirklees boundary - ingbirchworth. It is very oversubscribed as they are building more and more homes in penistone. It is very unlikely you would get in from denby dale unless u have sen or another priority admission criteria

vickibee · 07/06/2021 16:19

It is really hard to get a mid year admission too.

@Nicky2021 I have just spotted this thread. If you want your DC to get into PGS you will need to move much nearer to Penistone. Planning permission for 400 new family homes has just been granted within a 10 minute walk from the school.

The school is over subscribed, and even people who moved into the villages between Penistone and Barnsley for the traditional feeder schools are now worried that their DC won't get into Penistone.

They have already extended the school to accommodate 250 more pupils, and I don't think they have the room to expand any more.
