Cost of barge boards, soffits and fascias

And replacement of guttering on a small 2 bed semi detached dormer bungalow?

3 years ago my mum was given an 'estimate' of £2k for the work. For one reason and another this was not done. She's gone back today to see about them coming to do the job. They are now talking about £6k for the job. Which seems a bit steep.

Online calculators seem to say £2-£3k .

I know the usual thing is to get a number of quotes but we are quite rural and mile's from big towns and companies doing this type of work are few and far between.

The same company did fit her a new front door about 18months ago and did make a good job, and the cost seemed fair.

Does £6k sound expensive?

It does sound expensive - I'm in the process of having this done and am being charged £7.5k plus vat for a large detached property with a single storey extension. That doesn't include scaffolding which I sorted separately. There are three of them working on it for a couple of weeks.
So I guess questions to ask (which might make it more reasonable) is if it includes vat and any scaffolding they need for the dormer.

It will be a 2 maybe 3 day job and a tiny amount of scaffolding for the dormer bit. Think they are trying to rip her of to be honest.

Defs sounds extortionate. We have replaced old white soffits etc with new black wood grain effect -on a 2 story detached house of approx 3200sq footage. Its costing £2200 and it is lovely. N.Ireland though so things tend to be cheaper here I guess.

They used our roofers scaffolding so that was not an issue either. But get at least 2 more quotes. 3 quotes for absolutely anything is what we have done for our project and I'm sometimes amazed at the piss people try to take.

Thanks every one. She will be getting three quotes!

We are currently having ours done as I type. Our quote is for 3k and we are a 3 bed detached house and garage in N Wales. The quote also includes replacing the dry verge. Your Mum's quote seems rather high.

We paid £3,200. Large detached 5 bed house. S E coast.

We had ours done last month.

Large 4 bed detached and detached garage. Has facias, guttering and dry verge as well as a large wooden tudor feature replaced in PVC. Total was £2,300 including garage. We're in the midlands.

No scaffolding needed and it took 2 days.
