Wrong boiler

We've been quoted for a baxi condensing boiler with 10y guarantee (also pressurised tank thingy, so not a combi). But an ideal has been fitted. Turns out plumber our builder used doesn't fit baxi boilers. We were told the boiler fitted was the same, with 10y guarantee and sent specs but the boiler in the spec is not what has been fitted (different model).

How would you handle this?

If you look up the model that has been fitted then you'll be able to download the exact spec and compare with what you'd expected. I'd also check that the model fitted isn't considerably cheaper.

If you had to have planning/warrant that included or specifically for the boiler it will need to be at least the same efficiency.

If it correctly sized and at least the same efficiency and a reputable brand (I've never heard of either but that is not indicative of anything) then I wouldn't be bothered.

If not those things then I'd be expecting a considerable discount to compensate and thats assuming its the correct size for the heat requirement of the house AND would satisfy building control. Otherwise they'd have to redo (but that is a nightmare that I'm guessing you'd rather avoid).

So who quoted then? I wouldn't be happy with this at all. Ideal boilers are OK, but not the best. I believe Baxi has a better reputation. Different boilers brands use different internal components of varying quality.

I wouldn’t be happy, I had an Ideal and it was shite and lasted 7 years and had numerous faults and repairs.

I’m already nine years into a Vailant without a single fault.

I love my ideal. Had it 5 years and never had an issue. Realized about two weeks ago we forgot to register the guarantee which was meant to be done in the first 30 days. Called customer service and they were excellent all sorted now.

That’s just weird! Why on earth didn’t the gas engineer tell you he /she wanted to fit an Ideal when you had agreed to and were expecting a Baxi! It wasn’t their call to make, it’s your money!

I've no idea. We went through it all with him, he said Worcester or baxi, he'd confirm in his part of the quote (Reno & extension). Quote says "supply and fit baxi boiler (10year guarantee) and upgrade pipework.
