Towns on the south coast

Kids have grown up and DH and I think we would like to move out of London. We don’t like Brighton / hove, we don’t want to go anywhere that’s full of retirees, we don’t want anywhere full of narrow-minded people. We like walking, cinema, theatre. And we need good transport links. Does this place exist?

Bexhill
Worthing
Goring

Rye is lovely but not brilliantly well connected.

If you use brexitiness as a proxy for narrow-minded (not a bad approach in my experience) this map is useful. The more blue it is the more narrow-minded.

Give Bexhill, Worthing, Eastbourne etc a swerve if your parents don't want to live in a world of retirees. Rother Council has the highest % of over 65s of any council in the UK.

Thank you, everyone, for your ideas. I’ll investigate!

However, Eastbourne and nearby has the best driest weather and the most sunny days of anywhere in the UK. Which explains its popularity. And it has some lovely property, built by wealthy people who wanted the weather and the scenery, which is also wonderful.

OxanaVorontsova · 03/06/2021 20:28

What about Chichester?

LushHeaven · 03/06/2021 20:30

God please don't come to Eastbourne or anywhere near here. We are sick of DFLs who think anywhere outside of London is full of narrow minded people yet base their opinions on stereotypes.

I have to say I agree!

Oh yeah , like one of those places I live in, on that map which has a vibrant 'alternative' culture, which hosted National Pride in 2019, and which has just elected an independent local council ( including Greens) to oust Tories ..

And yes did sadly vote for Brexit.. much to the disgust of many people here ..

Laska2Meryls · 03/06/2021 21:29

But dont let 'narrow mindedness' get in your way of your opinions of what its like here..

Handsnotwands · 03/06/2021 21:29

I’ve got a soft spot for southsea though I’ve never lived there. Spent some time there for work and enjoyed the vibe

Laska2Meryls · 03/06/2021 21:32

Sorry that was National Pride 2018, ...but hey ho ...
