Wood preservative?

I have a set of wooden shelves that I've been using in a garage. I would like to use them outside in the garden for storing pots etc. I would guess the wood will quickly deteriorate in the rain etc. However, can I paint in with some kind of wood preservative or waterproof paint? Sounds silly but I don't know if the wood is suitable for something like decking treatment or if I have to do something to the wood first?

I think you should try wood preservative like Sadolin or similar

Thanks, I'll look that up!

Use Ronseal Wood Preserver. Give a few Coates...it is a clear fluid that needs to soak in. Then use a finishing coat such as sadolin.
