Buying a property in Hatfield

Hey!

I currently live in North London but I'm planning to move not too far out. I was thinking to start searching for properties in Hatfield but I'm not familiar with the area.
Is it a good area? Is it a good area to raise a child? Would you recommend it ? Your honest opinions are much appreciated

We moved out of Hatfield a couple of years ago after 12 years. It is an ok place to live but it feels kind of disjointed and cut in half by the A1M. There is lots of very nice places to live but it is still quite pricey. Commute to London is ok.

We moved to Stevenage for cheaper housing and really love it. It has loads of cycle paths, brilliant commute to London and there are some bargain houses. We certainly don't live in a posh part of Stevenage but I like my neighbours and feel safe here.

Feel free if you want to know any thing else. I have lived around this area for most of my life so know most places pretty well.

I used to live in Hatfield. I loved it there and was sad to leave. The primary schools were brilliant - I had friends with kids at most of them and they all seemed happy. There isnt so much there - but Welwyn, Herford and St Albans were all close by. There was a bakers and a library and lots of outdoor places nearby to visit. If it wasnt miles away from my family I'd happily have stayed there. The Birchwood estate was nice, as well as Hatfield if you have a higher budget.

If you can afford it, Welwyn, Letchworth and Hitchin are all nicer IMHO. There are nice parts of Hatfield but a lot of it is weird flat roof 70s estates or in amongst rowdy students. What kind of budget and requirements do you have?
