What would you do in these circs?

Really would appreciate advice or your experiences! We had our offer accepted 15th April. It took sellers a couple of weeks to nominate solicitors, we have paid for searches and a survey. However, solicitors have been unable to move on because sellers are sadly divorcing and have not been able to agree about the settlement. (They are not going thru the courts, so there's no court authorised settlement.) Literally nothing can happen until this is decided (solicitor confirms). Agent is sympathetic and says she is badgering them but with no luck.

We love the house and are not in a chain but I'm really wondering if we should give them an ultimatum. The thing is if we withdraw I assume we won't get survey etc payment back... anyone else dealt with this and have any advice? Thanks!

Just to add - altho we have paid for searches payment I assume is dependent on searches actually happening, which they haven't yet.

You will get money back from your solicitor for the searches if they don't happen

from a financial POV, would bave been better to wait for the survey until chain complete

I'd suggest asking them if they will move out so you can complete by a certain time, if not look for another property....

Thanks! Yes we should have waited on the survey! It's an oldish house so we wanted to check it was more or less ok.

Yes give them a deadline. I pussy footed around my sellers and ultimately I could have been waiting forever. I realised their delay would cost me £30k plus - missing stamp duty holiday, having to rent for six months, double moving costs, storage etc etc.
