Vinyl flooring kitchen?

So I really cannot stand the tiles we have in the kitchen. We cannot lay new tiles on top easily as the kitchen cabinets sit on top of the tiles and it would be difficult to have a neat, flush finish round all the edges. Ripping up the tiles is one option but would be costly. Before going down that route, we wondered whether vinyl is an option and lay this on top of the existing tiles. Might be easier to cut and get a nice finish.

Has anyone done this? Does modern vinyl look okay? I always used to think of vinyl as cheap looking but some of the modern stuff I've seen has made me reconsider.

Or any other advice? I really cannot stand the tiles which were here when we bought the house! Stupidly, we didn't change the flooring when we changed the cabinets.

I think the grout lines will show through. Maybe not immediately, but after being walked over repeatedly. You'd need some sort of screed or leveller to provide a flat surface under the vinyl.

Yes as above plus if you need to move appliances then it's likely to tear.

Ah ok. So will drop the vinyl idea then! Back to the expensive option!
