Would you buy a house without a bath?

We're looking at a property just now with the main bathroom only having a shower cubicle and no bath.

It's in a new build area, 3 beds, new schools being built so obviously has a family market in mind.

Whilst we're not needing a bath, we're concerned that not having one would affect its resell later down the line.

Would you buy a house with no bath?

Would you buy a house with no bath and no room to put one in?

Thanks mnetters!

Not if the bathroom wasn't in need of redoing. I love a bath as does DH, so a newly done bathroom with no bath would put us off.

999Alex · 24/05/2021 13:01

Well it depends. If I bought it, it would be with the knowledge that I'd have to put one in. I've got young kids and regardless of that I LOVE a bath. It would def p me off though and make me fat or in the cost of replacing to any sale price.

It was a really nice modern one and only recently fitted it would put me off too as I wouldn't want to rip out something decent to put a bath in. If it was old or not really my style etc then I'd be happy to do the work.

999Alex · 24/05/2021 13:03

If no room to put one in then no I wouldn't buy it.

Hallyup6 · 24/05/2021 18:02

A bath isn't huge so if there's no space for a bath to be added, how small is the bathroom?! I wouldn't buy a house with a bathroom too small for a bath, even if I didn't need a bath.

Cuntryhouse · 24/05/2021 18:04

Hate baths and just about to remove ours. It never gets used. Primary aged dc shower now.

OlivesTree · 24/05/2021 18:06

Not bothered about the actual bath, but would be concerned by the lack of space.

Jerble · 24/05/2021 18:09

Yes I would buy one without a bath. We’ve taken the bath out and put in a large walk in shower. You could easily put a baby bath in the shower and fill it up using the shower. Or replace with an actual bath.

However I’m not sure I would buy a house without space for a bath, purely for resale potential. Even though we would never use one. If the house was perfect in every other way and very resellable, ie excellent location, then I would consider it.

lynsey91 · 24/05/2021 18:25

Yes. The house we are in now has no bath and we bought it.

I hate baths. Showers are quick and easy and baths are boring and a waste of water.

I have neighbours with 3 young children and they don't have a bath. They manage perfectly well with a shower

AgeLikeWine · 24/05/2021 18:28

Yes, because I don’t use our bath. Shower every time for me.

carcarbinks · 24/05/2021 18:31

No

Mintjulia · 24/05/2021 18:33

No.

For me, a hot bath is there when I'm exhausted, when I ache or have a cold or period pain. It is an always-available source of luxury and comfort.

When DS is away at his dad's, my first evening is always scented bath, candles, glass of white, relaxing music or maybe a book. Then fluffy towels and bed. Bliss Smile

I'd be lost without it.

NinjaJunkie · 24/05/2021 18:37

We ripped our bath out when we got the hot tub.

We have a 900 x 1900 shower cubicle - someone could easily put a bath back in!

Chumleymouse · 24/05/2021 18:37

Been in this house 2 1/2 years now, I’ve not used the bath once( separate shower). I wouldn’t bother me with no bath.

MumofSpud · 24/05/2021 18:40

I have lived in my house for 12 years - the main bathroom has a bath.
I have NEVER had a bath in it!
The children have - and the dog!

But I wouldn't have it taken out (have thought about it) because if reselling it.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/05/2021 19:07

No, it’s my reading time

Asdf12345 · 24/05/2021 19:12

I would rather have a shower cubicle than a bath.

Silkiecats · 24/05/2021 19:49

Without a bath or room to put one in a definite no for a family home for us.

Would probably rule out ones without a bath already unless exceptional or cheaper if space to put one in. But would factor in cost of redoing whole bathroom.

Singlenotsingle · 24/05/2021 19:50

No I wouldn't. I love a bath.

Pittapatta · 24/05/2021 19:52

Nope. I love a soak in a tub

Princesspickle777 · 24/05/2021 19:53

No, we previously rented and the property didn’t have a bath. It was a nightmare having to wash young children in a shower and I’m partial to a long soak. So happy we now have a bath, it was the first thing I checked properties we were viewing for.

Mumoftwo2021 · 24/05/2021 19:55

Our house that we bought didn’t have a bath, it has a wet room, however there is room to put a bath in if we wish xx think it depends on the person.

SwearytheFairy · 24/05/2021 19:56

No, I wouldn't rent one either.

Literal deal breaker.

Hate showers though.

VerbenaGirl · 24/05/2021 19:57

I definitely would not, as I bath daily - but I know I’m in a minority there. The main worry is putting off future buyers with young children - as a bath is fairly key for that market I’d have thought. However, my friend has happily converted her 3 bed to shower only without a second thought - so it does happen.

@Cuntryhouse

I hate them too and removed it ages ago with no regrets.
Chicchicchicchiclana · 24/05/2021 20:01

I wouldn't, no.
