Moving to Cheltenham- how close to Naunton Primary do you need to be?

Hi

We are looking at moving to the Leckhampton area of Cheltenham and hoping to get our littles into Naunton Park Primary. Our first will be entering Reception in 2023.

We are looking at a property that is 0.6 miles from the school and was wondering if anyone had a view on whether it is close enough? I’m in the process of getting hold of the last admitted distance without siblings but it’d be great to have some real life opinions!

Thanks 😊

It’s a very built up area so you probably have to be really close. Lots of terrace type houses in the immediate vicinity. However there are several really good primary schools in the area! I don’t live in Leckhampton but I do live in Cheltenham. Schools really are pot luck! Good luck!

The thing is it depends on which way they have drawn the boundaries, so (to my understanding), 0.6 miles might be fine in one direction but not another? Also is the 0.6 as the crow flies? because apparently that makes a difference too. It’s all tricky to work out - and I suspect that’s deliberate.

It’s a very popular school as I’m sure you know. But Cheltenham has a fair amount of good primary schools so have a back up plan.

I can't help you on distance, but wanted to check you knew the outstanding ofsted was done in 2013, the school hasn't been inspected since? Of course it could still be outstanding, but the headteacher has changed since they were inspected. There have been a few articles in the press recently about outstanding schools dropping to requires improvement when they are inspected again 10 years later. Of course you might know all this, but its a big decision to make so just wanted to make sure you're aware.

You would hope 0.6 would be ok but no guarantees... however as pp have said, lots of fab schools locally!
