Thoughts on freezer

I'm looking at replacing my kitchen - we moved in in December and it doesn't suit us. There's currently an integrated fridge freezer with limited space and I'm looking at a freestanding one instead. Looked at a Haier (sp?) model which is a bit like an American style but more narrow, with two large drawers at the bottom. The stated capacity looks good but I'm wondering how practical it is compared to say 4 more shallow drawers. Anyone got one that can give their views? Thanks.

I had a similar one a few years ago and didn’t like it - you’ve only got two ‘layers’ of floor space and it just felt a nightmare to find stuff. Awkward stuff like bags of ice seemed to take up LOADS of room. The actual drawer mechanism seemed bulky too whereas normal freezer drawers are fairly slimline!

My friend in America has deep freezer drawers and they are a nightmare - you have to take half the food out to find stuff. I prefer a side by side fridge freezer.

Really glad you started this thread OP. I wanted one of these freezers but this feedback is invaluable.

Oh god me too @BlackAlys !!
I suspected the drawers might not be that practical but thanks for the confirmation @dizzyupthegirl86 @Livingintheclouds

I have a haier fridge freezer. It has the top half as fridge with doors that open like a cupboard. Bottom is two freezer drawers.

I LOVE it!!!! Having the fridge at the top is so useful and much better than the old side by side one I had.

The freezer drawers are really deep and they have little hidden drawers as well.

Honestly can't praise this fridge enough.

Arghhhhhhhh!!!!!

I must admit I do like the top opening like a cupboard- I'm just worried about the deep drawers and stuff getting lost in there!! How do you organise your freezer @Twizbe ?

Do you do any batch cooking and freezing? Does it store a lot?

I do batch cooking as well. At the moment it's quite organised as it's only a couple of months old lol.

Top drawer has things I use a lot like frozen veg and fish fingers. It has two hidden drawers which I use for pastry, jacket potatoes and frozen chopped herbs and spices.

Bottom drawer has bread and milk. It's hidden drawer has my batch cooked items.

It's very easy to organise and tons of space.

This is really helpful @Twizbe

I guess at the end of the day I would use the fridge more than the freezer, and I really did like the look of it. There's only me and my 20yo ds at home, but I do tend to hoard stuff in the freezer, which is why I was worried about the drawers not being practical. My current fridge has been an absolute pita as it has precisely zero practicality and space.

I like the idea of hidden drawers or drawers within drawers though Smile
