PAX Wardrobes Must Haves

Hi
Looking for new wardrobes for our master bedroom. Have tried to create 250cm (w) x 236cm (h) online but am not finding the IKEA website user friendly! Can anyone recommend their ‘must haves’ in their PAX wardrobes? There is sooooooo much choice! Many thanks.

If you are having hinged doors pay attention to where the hinges go as these will take up the screw holes for interior fittings - not a hanging rail though. In terms of Pax single wardrobes I have over 20 throughout the house including in the children's playroom. Mine all have hinged doors so that is what I can talk about. There are 3 hinge points.

Drawer runners are at the bottom of the drawer meaning you cannot have one at the bottom if using hinged doors, this is obvious in Ikea's pictures if you know what to look for. The basket runners are at the top of the basket so you can have a basket at the bottom. I prefer individual drawers over the drawer unit as you can put those wherever you want.

Yes to the "Pull out tray" for putting accessories on, belts, jewellery or even toiletries. Hanging rails take a lot of weight. The Skubb fabric boxes etc are good for dividing up the space in a drawer.

One thing I will say is if you plan your wardrobe out and know where the interior fittings are going, when you take the side panels out of the package and lay them next to each other, put your slide rails etc on then, far easier than trying to do it when the wardrobe is together and upright and you are having to reach into the back of the wardrobe to tighten a screw. Also you can see that the slides are lined up with each other before you realise you have done one wrong.

We didn't use the connector bolts but instead just used screws to screw from one wardrobe to the other to secure them and not in the holes in case we wanted to move interior fittings around. Please also attach them to the wall if you feel that someone may climb it or tip it.

Agree with all the above!

We have a run of Pax wardrobes and each one has a rail with a shelf above the rail and drawers in the bottom half, except one single (50cm width) which is just a full height rail to store long dresses and tall boots at the bottom.

Some cupboards have more drawers and we put shorter clothes on the rail, some have fewer drawers and we put longer clothes on that rail.

We have hinged doors so cannot have a drawer at the bottom of the wardrobe due to hinge position, only realised this late on. instead we have either a basket or the pull out shoe rack at the bottom, as either of these work ok with the hinges. The baskets are not as good as the drawers, don’t open and close as cleanly, so would definitely use drawers apart from at the bottom.

Yes to the pull out tray, perfect for jewellery, sunglasses and all those other small bits and bobs. We have the flat Komplement felt trays for jewellery etc too.

Yes to the Komplement felt boxes for dividing up drawers, especially useful for underwear drawer.

Consider how tall you are and how long your clothes are when deciding where to place your rail. You may find you want to install the rail down a bit from the top and have a shelf above it. If so then the Skubb boxes are useful for this as they fit the shelves exactly - easier to pull down the box and look inside than rummage on a high shelf. we use the Skubb for travel clothes/occasional accessories/ out of season stuff.

I loved my pax wardrobe. we've just moved house and I miss it.

we went for the taller ones and put a shelf at the top that fitted 3 Skubb boxes in. They were so handy for storing bedding and easy to pull down even though I'm super short. I then had hanging rail and about a metre below had a glass shelf then pull out tray with a grey insert for jewellery which was so handy. then two drawers with glass fronts and a pull out basket in the bottom.

the other wardrobe we went for the 75cm unit with built in mirror. I was hesitant about the mirror part as I didnt see many images online or I store but the mirror was so useful and helped bounce light around the room. Inside we had several rows of pull out shoe trays and then a L shaped unit on the bottom to divide the space, with a 50cm trouser rail and accessory tray above. space to the side was empty for storing bags, pillows.

Double rails, I love double rails.

Agree with lots of comments above

  • mirror door was a great feature
-I loved the wire baskets for undies/pj/gym kits etc (can see what is there & don't need to spend time folding up clothes that are used v regularly
  • my best use of the pax was a glass shelf that I used for all my dressing table stuff so this was behind closed doors

With the height & the organisers the PAX stores a huge amount - more than normal wardrobes. The shallow/narrow units are also great for shoe storage

Oh if you have any way to get power into the wardrobes then in cabinet lighting is definitely worth considering. So helpful eg when one of us gets up earlier and doesn’t have to turn all the lights on to get dressed.

Mirror door and use their fitting service. The fitter was super speedy and the overall effect is just like a bespoke fitted wardrobe. I also curved around the wall and got a much bigger space with this.
I agree though it’s hard designing them and much easier in store with your measurements.

Sorry for the delay in replying. This information is absolutely fantastic thank you so much. We will be having hinged doors too so that is good to know about not being able to have a drawer at the very bottom.
Are you happy with the hinged doors you chose? I don’t suppose you can remember which ones you have? Thanks again your help has been great!
