survey before chain complete

Hi all, i've just accepted offer on my property and now looking for an onward purchase so forming a chain.

I thought it was normal procedure not to do any surveys or legal stuff until chain was complete?

Buyer wants to get survey done already. I've got no issue with it really just wondered if this is normal now.

I said this to my EA when our buyers organised theirs before we'd found somewhere to buy. He encouraged me to let them as it made me look serious about moving (I very much was, but I had serious concerns about finding somewhere to move to!). I chose not to do this with my onward purchase.

It varies a lot.
Last house purchase we got the survey done straightaway as it was an older property and if the survey showed up major issues we would have walked away, so made sense to do that before all the legals and getting too attached to the property.

Yeah that makes sense although it's a bog standard 1980s estate.

Just hope the buyer doesn't think it means the chain is complete that's all.
