Rules/legality of neighbours fence?

According to the house deeds, I know which is my fence and which are the neighbours. Am I allowed to nail into or attach things like a trellis or hooks to the neighbours fence? Are they are 'rules'?

No. If it’s their fence you cannot attach anything without their permission. You can’t even paint/stain your side of the neighbours fence without their permission.

If I was your neighbour I would agree to the hooks without thinking about it. I might have concerns about the the trellis. ask?

Thanks everyone. No plans to paint or stain, and would likely put a trellis elsewhere. I get on well with the neighbour and I would certainly ask beforehand, just wasn't sure where I stood.

Realistically, they're unlikely to refuse permission for anything on your side of the fence. Why would they?

Just ask them.
