Slug in house - help!

We keep coming down in the morning to slug trail all across the rug and anything left on the floor in our lounge.
Never see the slug(s) but it's really not a nice feeling knowing they're coming in 😔
We have tried to find where they're coming in but can't find any gaps to fill (It's a 1930s house so I'm sure that's how they're getting in but I can't find anything). I've left beer in a bowl and caught one but nothing since. Tried laying down salt and nothing happened.
Not sure what else to try 😔 I guess catching them is one thing but I need to find how they're getting in to actually stop the problem!

Are the trails clear enough to follow?

I used to get them in my kitchen and had no idea where they were coming from or how they were getting in. I had a new back door 18mths ago and guess what, no more slugs. I think they must have been getting in through a slight gap at the edge of the cat flap (unless they were actually using the cat flap!). There is no cat flap in the new door.

They're clear on the rug but I can't see any trail on the wooden floor - I might have to move the rug right to the exterior wall and see if that helps! 😩 it's so horrible

dehumidifiers
get the reusable type with tablets not electric! We have problems in front room & I left 2 in there & they dried up the air & I think the extra moisture condensates onto walls & floors & the slugs come on for a warm swim (B &Q etc stock these)

& roll up your rug at night!

Lift a floorboard and see if there's a leak under the house. We had a slug problem and as as soon as we repaired a leak on the incoming supply pipe the ground under the house dried out and no more slugs. (Also a 30s house).

Move house! It’s the only way I got rid of my living room slug. I was a bit worried he’d have hitched a lift with the furniture but touch wood doesn’t look like it

Heartbeats0708 · 14/05/2021 14:58

You might catch it/them and see where they're coming from if you go downstairs again after dark. Lights off for a couple of hours, trick them into thinking you're asleep then happy hunting.. it's how I found mine!

eddiemairswife · 14/05/2021 15:07

They won't hurt you. When I was a child I read in an Enid Blyton nature book that slugs and snails can retract their eyes when they are touched. It's fascinating to watch.

De-humidifier (mine is electric)......dries out the room,.

Get a black light (uv) off Amazon and follow the trail

@Ohshitiveturnedintomymother I have actually told my partner we're moving! Wanted to anyway and this is the final straw for me 😂😂

@Heartbeats0708 will set a 3am alarm to meet the little blighters! I'm dreading the day I stand on one bare foot 🤮

Thanks everyone for the tips. Going to give them all a go and persuade other half to sell the house 😂

Go and weed along the external wall outside the room. I have a pet slug too but if I do the weeding outside it goes elsewhere
