Where is the TV in the layouts. For me the new sofa is just too big for the room, I prefer your current layout.

Excellent, pics worked!

This is my living room - empty, current layout and a possible new layout - which I know isn’t right! .

I would like to buy a new sofa (these were bought for a previous home) and want to take the opportunity to have a different layout. We currently have a lot of furniture in the room and don’t think it’s at its best, you have to shuffle round the coffee table. We are only 3 most of the time, 6 on occasion, can cram 10 in at Christmas. The room is only used for watching telly.

The TV is currently in the right alcove and shelves in the left, behind the door.

I don’t think the new arrangement is right, especially in the alcoves where I was thinking of shelves or units with a lamp on top.

Would very much welcome new ideas how this room would work best., happy to replace all current furniture!

The current layout doesn’t work well for two reasons, firstly small sofa occupant can’t see the telly and secondly it feels too crowded with two sofas and a coffee table across the room, hence wondering if one big sofa on just one side of the room would be better. I agree it doesn’t work though! Just trying to find other layout options.

I'd go for 2 medium sofas plus a couple of small side tables - I think unless you have huge rooms then central coffee tables do just get in the way

I do already have side tables at the French door end of the room actually, I was not very through with my furniture cutting out!

So consensus so far is two sofas in current positions - possibly same size? - and scrap the coffee table?

The room is 13.5ft / 410cm (both ways) plus the bay.

If the room is just used for watching TV and nothing else it makes sense to me to design it completely around that.

I think your new layout is ok including the unit/sideboard with a lamp, but the chair in the window is a maybe trying to squeeze too much in. If it was my room I don't think I would get a corner sofa just a standard 4 seat sofa then maybe buy two ottoman/pouffes that could sit in the bay or in front of the fireplace and be used as extra seats when you need them or footstools for when you're watching TV.

We got rid of our coffee table when DD was tiny because it had sharp edges. I've never missed it. Side tables work a lot better.

If only 3 people usually, I'd go for a long straight sofa on the right wall (4+ seater). TV on a unit opposite. Swap the two tub chairs in front of the patio doors for a long padded ottoman style bench for additional seating, but also a better view of the windows.

Then a small end table either side of the long sofa and scrap the coffee table.

If you want an extra cost chair, put the TV unit slightly closer to the door and put one on the corner where the left wall meets the bay (with a standing lamp behind it).

Something like this.

Can also drag it into the centre for movie might snacks etc.

This is great, thank you.

I do like the idea of footstools instead of the chaise end of the sofa. I do put my feet up and want to face the TV, but footstools would be more flexible.

It was serving snacks that led me to buy the coffee table but that is rare. So having a ottoman bench in the window that swaps on the rare occasion is excellent.

I'm going to find some new potential pieces later and cut out and lay out some new ideas.

Thank you so much.
