Frenchic Al Fresco on UPVC Door

Dear MN,

I am having a shit time and desperate to keep myself busy today. I decided to paint the front door in Frenchic Al Fresco, it says everywhere including on Frenchic website it doesn't need a primer, but then it looks like this so far. It's so bad I washed it all off. Where have I gone wrong please, any advice? Or is this normal look soon after you painted it and once it's dry and after 2 coats it will be ok?

TIA

Did you lightly sand the door first?

Not the first time the page I saw didn't mention it. I have now, it seems to stick a bit better but still looks bad. I left it to dry, see what happens, but I'm really unimpressed.

You need to sugar soap it first, wipe that off then lightly sand. Wipe the dust off and then paint.

Every question and dilemma you could ever have with Frenchic has been answered and photographed on the 'Frenchic Fan Forum' on Facebook.
Hope this helps

I used to use this paint as I bought into the hype on the Fan Forum, but really it is not good paint - it will likely chip and peel quite quickly. They will tell you that you need to do multiple things coats to build up colour, and if you ask a question such as what you’ve just asked here on their fan forum you will be told you’ve done it wrong and blocked.

Far better to buy paint that is specifically for UPVC.

The frenchic fan page has been known to delete negative comments or ones that mention other products like primer or varnish, which can help to give a better finish. There is a Facebook page called #notthebestpaintintheworld that gives more balanced views. Also worth checking out trust pilot.

What @OwletteGecko said

It’s not all it’s cracked up to be, which I found much to my annoyance and I have 30 years of painting experience.

Thanks all. The door was cleaned thoroughly before painting, sanded down now as well but finish not good. Ordered different paint and will try to cover up tomorrow, luckily didn't paint the entire door.

I bought Frenchic to paint a dressing table and matching stool. Not impressed. Won’t be buying again

I used it on my kitchen and it still looks good.

Having said that, you've put it on far too thick. You really need to feather thin coats and lots of them.

LuluJakey1 · 02/05/2021 22:43

Get a decent wooden front door. They always look much better than UPVC.

Lol what a helpful post, LuluJakey, off to the shop now I go Wink

I’ve been contemplating painting my kitchen, I was just watching a YouTube video for tips & there is a pvc door video. He makes it look so simple! I hope you manage to sort your door @PurplePansy05
