Structural engineer

I’ve been talking to a builder about taking down a wall on our ground floor, and he said that we might need a ‘small RSJ’ and that we need a structural engineer’s report.
Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for a report? (We are in the SE, if that makes any difference).
I’m not entirely sold on taking the wall down, but I can see why my DH wants to do it. I’d quite like an idea of the price of the job before we pay a structural engineer.

No experience of this OP but, have a look at www.localsurveyorsdirect.co.uk
You can input your details, leaving out your phone number if you don't want to speak to anyone, and explain what you want.
Respondents should come back to you with a price estimate for your actual job, then you can decide if it's worth the outlay or not.
I should add, I haven't used it but am currently considering it for another issue.

I think I paid about £400 a few years ago. They come and look then have to produce drawings for your builder and for building regs (you need to pay them a fee too).

thank you. It’s hard to know if it’s worth all the cost and upheaval.
