Bathroom tiles. Dated?

Whydidimarryhim · 27/04/2021 11:04

Hi these tiles are in my bathroom. Are they dated - I suppose we have been here for 10 years and they where in when we moved in.
Is there anyway we could paint them or can they be tiled over.
If we get them re tiled does the cost of retiling cover removal of the old ones or is this something we need to do.
No clue re DIY!!!
Thanks

Yes they are dated, but if you like them why worry ?
It up to you if you want to have the mess and pay out.
Mine are older than yours and I’m perfectly happy with them.

tiles last forever if properly fixed on. I'm a bit dated myself and I quite like these!

don't waste time painting. If you really dislike them enough, pay someone to remove and retile.

Dinosauraddict · 27/04/2021 11:12

They are very dated but if you like them, they don't have to go anywhere. You wouldn't retile over them, but you can ask tiler for price inc removal and they'll happily remove them for you before putting new ones on.

Dated for you or dated to a potential buyer? If the latter, I‘d leave them. It looks like a nice clean bathroom in good condition and that’s what I‘d prefer to brand new tiles that aren’t what I‘d choose.

ChekhovsWorkshoppedShooter · 27/04/2021 11:15

Very dated indeed, but in perfect condition as far as I can see. If you had to ask us about them then presumably you don’t see them as hideous yourself, and they’re not really on display to others. Unless Anna Wintour is planning on coming round and using your shower why would you care?

Mannersstillcostnothing · 27/04/2021 11:28

What ever you do dont paint them! Our previous owners painted the fully tiled bathroom and now the paint peels off in random chunks whenever you wipe the tiles. Worst of all the tiles under the white paint are, you guessed it, white so now cleaning the bathroom is a fun game of chasing white paint flakes round white tiles. So just to be clear DO NOT paint your tiles!

Yes they are dated, but I wouldn’t worry about it.
You can get bathroom panels fixed over the top of tiles. Examples here, cheaper options are available
