Post before exchange

Tell me I'm being a grump but I've just received a car part in the post addressed to my buyer, we are (fingers crossed) about 4 weeks away from exchange.

Two weeks ago I had an email from my broadband provider saying that they were sorry I was leaving, which was news to me. Apparently they had instructed a new supplier to take over my line from around 2 weeks after we're due to complete. Again, fine (ish) but it meant aphone calls to my provider to tell them I wasn't leaving and that I had actually panned to upgrade my package, which I couldn't do unless I cancelled the buyers request.

I've always waited until at least exchange before I've done this? we're planning on 2 weeks between exchange and completion.

Is this how it works now?

at least it sounds like they are serious!

I'd probably be a bit miffed too tbh, but often delivery dates for services and stuff are predicted to be long and then BAM....all done and dusted before you have even thought about things!

fourstones I did email the agent and they responded saying,

'Yes of course, I will certainly ask them to hold fire for the time being. I must say this is quite a normal thing to happen but I will make them aware'

Error no it isn't Mr Estate Agent...

I'd say it was bit keen, after all you've not exchanged and it is not their house! I had similar with broadband but no deliveries thankfully

CervixHaver · 26/04/2021 19:33

The cheek! What are you supposed to do with the car part, leave it in the middle of the living room floor?!

PaperDoll7 · 26/04/2021 19:44

The buyers broadband account should be different to yours though so they shouldn't need to cancel your package? How odd.

I just moved house and we unwittingly inconvenienced our seller regarding the broadband. Our provider wanted a months notice to switch so we had to tell them when we were approaching exchange because we couldn't wait a month in the new house without the internet especially as my DH works from home. They asked us to call them once exchange had happened so we could set a date to install at the new house. They said they wouldn't do anything without the go-ahead. But then they went out to the new house anyway and set it up before exchange 'because they were in the area that day'. I was so embarrassed! Our seller must have thought we were such CF's as part of the installation had to take place indoors not just outside the house. I wonder if something similar has happened with your buyer.

No idea why they're sending themselves car parts though. Perhaps a similar (ish) scenario though?

Paper re the broadband, I was about to upgrade my package so when I got the leaving email I called the provider and they said they'd have to cancel the buyers request before upgrading my package otherwise I wouldn't have been able to upgrade which I though was a bit off 😂

That does sound a bit off! The buyers request should have no impact on your account with the broadband provider other than it resulting them contacting you to ask if you want to move your package to your new address (and maybe upgrade it at the same time). Weird. I hope everything goes smoothly on that front for you!
