Living room moodboard. Thoughts/suggestions?

Dh is useless and has said to just do what I want, I have a brand new full house to decorate so it's quite overwhelming. I don't want it to be too samey to the current insta trends on houses. I love terracotta and natural colours, plants etc. The large print here is actually the Samsung Frame TV. It would have that gold frame around it but I'd not have the picture they've chosen. Anyway, does this look ok? Anything I should change? The colour is Farrow and Ball Bancha and would be on one feature wall behind the TV and the rest would be white.

I like the green and terracotta. I'm not sure about the colour of the TV stand.

Procrastatron · 25/04/2021 08:11

You are so lucky, my husband does want a say and it’s always “how about... grey?” Not because grey is a trend but because he’s scared of colour!
Will you go with brilliant white? We used F&B strong white with an Oval Room Blue feature wall. We have some gold framed mirrors against the Strong white and they look stunning!
Ive just looked at the colour boards for Bancha on the website and can see that it recommends creamy tones like James White and Off a white so I think the furniture and accessories will look good.
It also recommends setting plaster which I REALLY wanted in our dining area but got vetoed.... please incorporate this in your house, it’s so beautiful.
Out of interest, which aspect is the living room?

FindingMeno · 25/04/2021 08:15

I'm also thinking the colour of the TV stand I'd a little light and cool. Something warmer and earthier would look great.
I absolutely love the rest.
Perhaps introduce some nature indoors too - beautiful rocks or feathers or pampas.

milinhas · 25/04/2021 08:17

Do you need a tv stand with that tv - isn’t the point that it’s mounted on the wall like a picture? I agree with PPs it doesn’t go with the rest - id look for something a bit more mid century.

alloverthecarpetagain · 25/04/2021 08:18

I agree you are lucky as your oh lets you get on with it! I like the mid-century sort of look you have there, and I think it will look good. Nice to see a different colour palette from someone! Maybe think of a really lovely rug to go with those colours as well and maybe to also introduce a brighter colour just a little (lime, mustard, maybe?) I'd do the whole room first though and see how it looked. I'm not a minimalist myself so I always go crazy on the rugs and cushions, art work, etc.

Treacletoots · 25/04/2021 08:19

We've a similar theme. We've Verdigris alongside dusky pink accessories, gold mirror and cane lighting. I think a PPs suggestion of setting plaster or a warmer white will work beautifully with Bancha and I'd be tempted with a bit of statement wallpaper too (but we are maximalists)

Scarby9 · 25/04/2021 08:21

Is that the actual sofa, or just a general style / colour? Lovely colour.
But will you have any chairs with a higher back? That one doesn't look comfy for an evening to me.

FindingMeno · 25/04/2021 08:22

It's lovely making all the choices.
I do all the decorating and as the painter I make the choices.
If dh doesn't like it I tell him he'll have to change it, knowing full well he won't Wink
I think your colour palette will look stunning op.
Look at kilim cushion covers. They'd work beautifully with the colours, and introduce another natural texture.

MyAnacondaMight · 25/04/2021 08:24

The tv stand doesn’t go with the rest of the style. A mid century sideboard or console could be a good choice - or something slim and modern painted the same colour as the wall behind, so that it almost disappears.

Cowbells · 25/04/2021 08:25

I don't agree with PP about the TV stand. That mix of earthy colours needs some light touches or it might end up looking too slavishly 1970s retro. A pale Scandi birchwood or similar would look good, especially with the pale straw lampshade and the very pale terracotta plant pots - I think they tie together well.

Will change the TV stand after the comments! The TV won't actually be stood on it and will be wall mounted but we wanted a unit to hide the sky box and other bits.

Thanks for all the feedback! Love setting plaster and will try and incorporate that.

Showed Dh this morning who has said the same old do what I want but not those sofas as they look like something you'd see back in the 80s stinking of cigarettes. Weirdest description ever. Going to try and get him to see it in person as I love it.

UCOinanOCG · 25/04/2021 08:58

I like your colour scheme but those settees look very uncomfortable.

HouseBuilding · 25/04/2021 09:07

Sofa has been vetoed by DH. Mr 'no opinion' has said the only coloured sofa he'd like is dark blue or dark green so I'm more limited now. I've found these on dfs but would change the throw cushions.

Also found this where someone's done a gallery wall around the Samsung frame. I'm tempted to do similar but not sure if it would be distracting when watching TV.

That's annoying.
Dark blue/ green will completely change the look!

HouseBuilding · 25/04/2021 09:13

Yes I'm going to get him to the store and try and change his mind! Just coming up with a back up plan. I will convince him Grin

OP posts:
FindingMeno · 25/04/2021 09:15

Would he maybe accept the colour but a slightly different style? Like very slightly different, so he feels he's had a win...Wink

milinhas · 25/04/2021 09:16

Could you switch it to make the feature wall terracotta and look for a sofa that is close to Bancha to keep the look?

Sarcobaleno · 25/04/2021 09:17

If that's the sofa you're going for I'd change the wall colour to a terracotta or something. That sofa changes vibe too much.

Sarcobaleno · 25/04/2021 09:19

Not a fan of wall mounted TVs but if it's your plan I would say part of a gallery wall would be ok

Procrastatron · 25/04/2021 09:31

Don’t change the sofa! I would have vetoed that sofa on its own but on the mood board it’s great. Agree you need a high back chair though so suggest you let your DH pick himself one of those
Not mad about the gallery wall, it’s a bit insta. I’ve seen wall mounted tellies done well when the room is full of beautiful furniture that draws the eye away.

HouseBuilding · 25/04/2021 09:33

More good ideas, thank you. Will try and convince dh into my sofa as it is needed for the look. It's even more annoying when they say just choose and then they say no!

OP posts:
FindingMeno · 25/04/2021 09:35

I'm not sure on the gallery wall.
Hard to pull off and lots of straightening and cleaning!
You won't get away with any dust as it'll be a focal point when the eye wanders from the TV. It's better to let the eye rest on something plain.

HouseBuilding · 25/04/2021 09:36

Yes ignore the second update. I don't like it half as much and it does look a bit insta. Sticking with my original plan, will look for a similar colour sofa but different style as suggested and see if I can win him over that way. I really want a terracotta sofa.
